Here is the Beta3 version of PowerTools Lite 2011:

Please read the following before downloading

Remember that this is beta level software. This means that this version has been made available only for testing purposes. This version contains bugs and can potentially damage your computer and mind.

As always, we will give out free licenses to the best beta testers. If a beta tester already owns a license we can also issue VIP and Platinum VIP packages for free, or other such prizes.

However, you are not entitled for any kind of free license by simply downloading these beta versions. Free licenses are given out only to beta testers who give us valuable feedback, such as bug reports or improvement ideas. We will publish the list of users who won a free license after the final version of the product has been released, not before. All free licenses are decided on case-by-case, sometimes it takes just one message with two lines to earn a license (e.g. if you found a really good bug that no one else reported), sometimes it takes much more.

How to send your feedback

* Please use the Post Reply button of this thread for all feedback.

* If you are reporting a bug, please give as much information as possible in regards what steps are required to reproduce the problem. Also let us know what version of Windows you are using. There is no need to post the hardware configuration of your computer, unless asked.

* You can send attachments, including screenshots, to the thread from the Post Reply > Upload attachment tab (below the main text area).

* If you are reporting a bug that is not obvious, please include the Debug Log to your report. Note: the Debug Log contains information about your computer, if you do not wish other users to see all this information, you can use the Private Messages feature to send the Debug Log to us.

* If you are reporting a False Positive by the Clean and fix my computer tool, there is no need to send a Debug Log. To report a False Positive, simply send a Screenshot of the False Positive, and say what settings of the Clean and Fix My Computer you are using.

* You can also send you general feedback, how you feel the program works for you or if there is something you don't understand, or if some feature doesn't work the way you expected. Feedback like this is sometimes even more valuable than bug reports.

How to create a Debug Log

* If the problem doesn't cause PowerTools to crash: Go to the Main Window, open Debug menu and select "Save Debug Log". The Debug Log is saved to your Desktop.

* If the problem causes PowerTools to crash: Go to the installation directory of the program (c:\program files\PowerTools Lite 2011 BetaX\ by default) and create an empty file called "DebugMode.dat" there. Then start the program and re-create the problem. The Debug Log is being automatically saved to your desktop as you use the program.

Release Notes:

* This is fully functional software.

* The icons used by the program are not yet final.

* The Download Handbook features of the setup or the program do not work yet (because the handbook is not ready yet)

What's New (compared to PowerTools Lite Beta2)

Bug fix: File > Backups > File > Close is not translated.

Bug fix: If you remove something, backup is created automatically, but if you open Settings window, it says user is always asked before a backup is created.

Bug fix: The tooltips of Main Window's health gauges are not correct.

Bug fix: The program can display items of certain Anti-Virus products even if the option to ignore all data relating to Anti-Virus products has been selected under Additional Safety tab.

Bug fix: Running the Clean and Fix My Computer doesn't always correctly update the PC and Registry health gauges of the Main Window.

Bug fix: The Backup tool can freeze when opened if you do not have any backups to list.

Improvement: When the program starts for the first time, it automatically uses a translation if one exists for the current language of the system.

Improvement: The About window is now final.

Improvement: Added support for command line parameters.

Improvement: The Clean and Fix My Computer now reports any files it fails to remove, for example due to Access Denied error.

What's New (compared to PowerTools Lite 1.9.0.589)

* Comes with the registry cleaner engine of jv16 PowerTools 2011, with improved accuracy and 64 bit Windows support.

At this point we are mainly waiting for the new icons to be ready, after that the Handbook can be finished and the Release Candidate 1 released.

The problem persists with Alwil/Avast!

PT is set to ignore virus/malware apps.

OS is XPPro 64.

Avast is installed in Program Files.

PT picks up a folder in Docs & Settings, All Users, Application Data, labeled Alwil Software.

The Alwil folder contains a folder, Avast 5, which holds a folder HTMLData and three dat files.

The three dat files are current as of 7, 5 Jul 11.

PT picks up that Alwil folder as Useless and Unnecessary, which of course it isn't as it is used every day!

That Alwil information doesn't appear to be a duplication of anything in the application files in Program Files??

Ran flawlessly.

My only complaint (if it's that at all) is that it took 2 runs to bring my health up to 100%.

OS is 32bit XP on a laptop with 3Gb RAM.

Hi Guys,

i posted comments about beta 1 and beta 2. Sure would like to qualify for an upgrade but I'm not that tech savvy and not sure what to look for. Just ran beta 3 and no problems with it so far. Is there any thing i could be looking for? My computer health wasn't very good beforehand and was 100% afterwards. So I'm happy. I know i get a debug log each time i run Jv Powertools beta 3. is there something i should be doing with that? also is there any advantage to downloading the unofficial test build of jv16 PowerTools 2011 just yet. Is that part of what you are testing?

I think I found the problem, it should finally be fixed in the next released build. Thank you for reporting!

Yes indeed I can, using XP-SP3 with PTLite-2011 beta2:

1. Switching language from English to Dutch, causes the Program keys and their related functions, as displayed in the 'Help' pull down menu, to mess up.

2. Switching back from Dutch to English restores the functional order in the Program key's!

NB: This behavior does not happen in jv16PT2011 v2.0.0.1029

This beta2 problem is solved in beta3, no difference in the 'Help' pull down menu for Dutch and/or English language!

I installed jv16PT2011_vasek3 per your request and ran it with the same parameters I used for PT Lite Beta2/3.

You have indeed found the problem! There is no mention of Alwil/Avast in Empty and Useless folders.

Thank you for confirming the fix! We are currently waiting for the graphics to get ready and after that it's time to release the PowerTools Lite 2011 RC1.

Comparing two different registry cleaners is hazardous business. There always will be differences between the results of scans. IMO it makes no sense to report keys from another cleaner that are not found or listed by PowerTools Lite. As I wrote, there always will remain differences.

I think the debug log will not contain indications about the key not listed.

In any case you can zip the debug log and send it here to the forum as an attachment to a new post. If you are looking at the bottom of the screen you will see a tab "upload attachment". You can use it to add attachments to your posts.

A normal debug log doesn't contain any information that would tell us why the engine didn't list certain data as errors. This kind of logging features do exist in the engine, but they are turned of for regular beta versions because with the feature enabled the speed of the analysis would be dramatically reduced and the size of the debug log files would be in tens of megabytes.

If you wish to report errors that you think PowerTools Lite should list, please send a saved list of these items instead. Such as a scan report of the other registry cleaner product.

No, IMHO it is a valid question. But you are actually asking for a new product feature. There is a separatye forum thread for 'Feature requests'.

It is up to the developper to reply and jv16 is probably very busy with finalizing the new builds for both the jv16PT-full version and jv16PT-Lite version.

Registry Cleaner in the paid jv16PT full version has the "mouse right click -> regedit" function you would like to have in jv16PTLite.

CFMC in the paid jv16PT full version is ~equal to the free jv16PTLite and does not have the "mouse right click -> regedit" function either.

I guess there must be functional differences between 'Free' and 'Paid'.
