XP-System ruined after ONE run of JV 2011 (just trolling...)

Hello to all who are to try out the new JV16 2011-Version!

You better keep your hands off the new version!

I had installed the new version last night and gave it just one run. I made sure only to mark the few found items which I "thought" were useless and unimportant.

I am not a novice on the JV16-tools but have the JV 16 2006 (build 1.5.2.250) running since its release. I do know that I could update to version 2.0.0.986 which I DO NOT on purpose because it was completely changed to worse.

The 2006-version not only runs perfect on XP, XP 64 but also on Vista and Win7 64.

Anyway........after the first clean of JV 2011 my XP would not start anymore, telling me that the "system32\config.sys" is missing! A repair with the system-cd was recommended. Ooops?

Two more tries to start in "safe-mode" or "Last known good configuration" failed both.

answers: "system32\config.sys" is missing.

Avoiding an XP-repair I decided to boot from a "linux-emergency-cd" which recovered quite a few files.

Soon after XP would start as usual without any problems.

First thing I restored the files from the JV 2011-backup-file as well as the backupped registry.

Then uninstalled JV 16 2011 and sent it back to Suomi.

I swear that I`ll never touch another "new" JV 16-version!

1.The mentioned 'one run' was made with the new jv16PT-2011 v2.0.0.1007?

What did you do? Registry Cleaning? Clean and Fix my Computer? With Normal policy scan?.......You do not specify any details!

2. I have been using jv16PTversion 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, beta-2011, 2010, beta-2011 and now version v2.0.0.1007 and never 'wrecked' my XP-SP3 system!

The config.sys file is not even used in XP-SP2 or XP-SP3. In fact, I seem to recall that config.sys was removed on a SP2 upgrade. However, there is a folder named CONFIG in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ that may have become corrupted.

Also jv16 2006 may run okay on x64 XP and x64 Vista; however, it never addresses anything that is pure 64-bit...such as the Wow6432node area. jv16 never started really recognizing and properly handling 64-bit registry keys until PT 2010.

I checked my SP-XP3 system and c:\WINDOWS\system32\config.sys does indeed not exist!

The only hit I got with jv16PT File Finder is an empty c:\config.sys file.

I have an odd feeling about this post. Could it be guerrilla marketing?

While version 2011 did not wreck my computer it did fail to complete the system clean routine, and I was compelled eventually to discontinue the program when XP SP3 kept informing me that it had ceased to run (a message I ignored several times until it was obvious that this is what was happening). I ran the program's cleanup utility twice. Same result.

The program reported numerous files were empty -- which, in fact, were not empty and contained Norton Security files. Incidentally, Norton reported that 2011 was safe to run.

I did note that 2011 had backed up my files -- despite not completing the cleanup. To be safe, I restored the backups.

I uninstalled 2011 and re-installed 2010. It runs fine, and I've decided to wait until 2011 matures before reinstalling it.

Could user Looser12 please tell us what exactly did you do with the product?

Also, as pointed out, although config.sys sounds like something really important, the file has not been used by Windows since Windows 98. Even if the file would be removed, it doesn't cause anything.
