On an x64 Windows 7 system (with v.2.0.0.984)
Perhaps this test description and debug log will help troubleshoot the list flickering and temporary black corruption problem. As far as I can tell, it is only an egregious problem with the list of File Finder, and to a lesser extent, that of the File Tool.

I had days previously made the settings so size and the three dates would "always show."I ran a File Finder preference to search for a*.dll on C:\ with no grouping.
The scan ran quickly, found 1188 files, and the populated list showed almost at once with no significant flickering or temporary black corruption. The list had only Directory and File columns. Unfortunately, the Columns menu Size was selected, as well as the three date columns.
Deselecting Size caused the list flickering and temporary black corruption while the three date columns were filled in. The list took a long time to complete unless I used the minimize workaround.
To get Size to show, it had to be reselected. The flickering and temporary black corruption repeated while the Size column filled in.

In the same session, I closed and relaunched the File Finder preference. It behaved again exactly as described above.
I decided to run the test in Debug Mode. It essentially had the same result, but there is understandably quite a bit of debug overhead. The scan ran several minutes. When the date columns appeared, after deselecting Size, it took two or three minutes before the first line got its dates.
Because of the debug overhead, the list no longer flickered. Instead, the grid line part of the window refreshed as the dates added to each line. It took two to three seconds per line. At that rate it would take about an hour to fill in the dates, and perhaps another hour to fill in the size.
Therefore, after about fifteen minutes, I closed the tool. According to the task manager performance graph, it continued to run. Therefore, I exited the main window. That stopped the run-on cpu use.
The resulting attached debug log was 3.5 MB unzipped.

Other information:
With a smaller results list, with 7 files for example, the size and three date columns show at once (most of the time). The flickering and temporary black corruption still occur but only last a few seconds.
To test with the File Tool, I copied all the found dll files to a desktop folder and dragged it to the File Tool window. The results were the same as with the File Finder, but the temporary black corruption was either gone or not noticeable.
