I'll need to check with the company whose executable protector we use to see if that product creates the file.

It's not created by the executable protector. I'm now checking if it's the setup product...

Reading the link supplied from DavidCo reveals, that mentioned files possibly originates from installing toolbar ASK.

I tried to install ASK-toolbar and guess what - that brought me the mentioned files.

I also discovered, that numbers in these filenames can vary depending on which version of ASK you install.

But ASK - toolbar is the real originator. Uninstalling ASK leaves a couple of files behind that just can be deleted.

I have not tested if mentioned files pop up after simple deletion and afterwards installing i.e. JVPT16.

I guess that this is likely to happen just as DasFox experienced..

It could also be the case that these files are created then deleted on most PC's

I do not think the files are created by JV PT - never have

I am waiting for the people that have these files to confirm the existence of the Ask toolbar on their PC's

I agree with you Aagard ...

I gave this information allready on the beginning of this discussion. Sometimes ago I did install once this utility and deleted it later on.

And this files did only appear on the one of my two systems I had this Ask Toolbar.

Concerning unwanted toolbars in general there is a small utility called Multi-Toolbar Remover recommended by Majorgeeks :

Edit: I just found an interesting information about Ask Toolbar (this could also concern certainly other "Toolbars" ... there you can see that a lot of software uses this.

I don't install toolbars and I did have Foxit installed but I unchecked for Ask and clicked the Decline button.

I also uninstalled Foxit and made sure there were no reg entries for it or Ask then I rebooted and tried installing JV16 again and the file reappeared.

I work on computers for a living and I assure I did not have any malware on the system or toolbars and each and every time without fail I get this file installed after the installation completes for JV16.

What I'm going to do this time is reinstall the system and then only install the drivers along with Avira and VMworkstation then in VMware I'm going to install this with nothing in it and come back and let you all know...

I have found that Foxit sometimes just hides the toolbar (tools>preferences>internet search)

Could you repeat the test by running the virtual copy of Windows in Safe Mode?
