For the first time ever, I decided to have my brother compact the registry on his Win XP-SP3 with jv16 PT 2010, V2.0.0.970. Even though he has used jv16 PT for several years, it has only been to clean the registry. I have never had the guts to talk him through a registry compact via telephone .... some 2000 miles away. : Well, I was walking him through it on B970 and the registry compactor crashed as soon as it started to compact.
1. The machine showed 9 registry hives to compact.
2. We selected to compact without rebooting. All programs were shut down and NIS 2011 was deactivated prior to starting the compact.
3. Once he clicked on Compact, two windows opened both showing that they were getting ready to compact different hives
4. Then Registry Compact crashed. I had him select "close application". After about 60 seconds, jv16 closed.
Attached is the bugreport.txt. No log.txt file was in folder RegCompact. And there was no Hives.dat file.
Hopefully, you can find what may have caused this from the bugreport.zip. I really do not enjoy spending hours on the telephone helping him rebuild his system should the registry collapse because of registry compact failure. :
Note: We did not try the compact with reboot option.
