How do I use File Merge?

New user here. Reading thru the handbook and saw "file merge". Tried to use it but couldn't find my saved file. Tried giving a directory and file name but no joy.

Will this function merge avi files into one large avi file? Also, how do I save the file to a specific directory? I'm sure I'm missing something simple but that's why I'm asking for help.

To merge many avi files to a one file, do the following.

Method A:

1. Locate files with the Windows Explorer or browse to them via My Computer.

2. Drag the files to the main window of jv16 PowerTools 2005.

3. Select all the file and click More Functions > Merge

4. Give the file the name you wish, click OK and wait a while.

Method B:

1. Use the File Finder feature of the jv16 PowerTools to locate the files you wish to combine.

2. Follow the steps of the Method A from step 3.

The merged file is created under the same directory the original avi files are. If the avi files are located in different directories the merged file is created under the same directory the first avi file is.

Note: the merged avi files may not always play properly, sometimes the Media Player can only play the first "clip" of the large file as it doesn't detect the additional data included to the file. But most times it works just well, also works with most types of mpg files

Ok, thanks! Just tried it again and had the problem that you mentioned. I ended up with a 240 Mb file but only the first 2 minutes could be played. Is that a Media Player problem?

Well, I don' quite know. The file created like this isn't always 100% standard because there are multible header datas (one from each file), usually it works just fine but sometimes it doesn't. It debends on the codec the video is encoded with.

By the way, I just improved the Merge feature of the File Tool. The feature now uses File Organizer's pattern recognition features to guess what could be the name of the combined files. For example, if you try to combine sunset1.mpg, sunset2.mpg and sunset3.mpg it will suggest "sunset.mpg" as the new file name. This improvement is very handy if use the feature often. The feature also now shows a dialog box when the operation is done.

This improvement will be available in the next version, it should be out in next week or so.
