Issues Fixed (since the original Beta7 release)
Issues found by beta testers (new numbers)
1. Unit Testing tool can show Error: TestExtractFilename : 1 SubID = 1 Par1 = Full mode efficency too low
2. Registry Compactor doesn't work if trying to use the "Compact with reboot" option.
3. Some parts of the GUI cannot be translated, such as the caption of Anti-Malware, Unit Testing and Debug tools.
4. Automation Tool's Create new Automation task window doesn't scale well enough to be translated.
5. The window of Mass File Renamer doesn't always show up large enough to properly hold all its graphical elements.
6. The GUI texts have some inconsistencies in terminology. For example, the Start Menu Tool uses a term "broken shortcut" and the System Cleaner uses a term "invalid shortcut"
7. Some parts of the GUI uses three dots with a space before, some don't have space. Such as, some buttons have a caption of "Add..." and some "Add ...", also, a few such item only has two dots, such as "Add.."
8. Some parts of the English.lng contains, by error, a double space between words, such as "None (default)" (there are two spaces between the two, instead of just one).
9. There are some typos in the English.lng, mainly "thie" instead of "this" and "Handook" instead of "Handbook"
10. The Add buttons of File Recovery and File Organizer tools lack the "..."
11. The English.lng no longer contains the important reminder to save the translation file using UTF-8 encoding.
12. You cannot close the Live Support window by clicking the X button from the top right corner of the window.
13. The Registry Cleaner can report a false positive if the username of Windows contains a space character.
14. When installing, the program no longer honors an existing MainSettings.dat in a target installation folder. It's replaced with the default MainSettings.dat
15. Unit Testing tool can show errors relating to TSettingsManager.
16. Program's uninstaller always removes backups and settings, even if user doesn't select those to be removed.
17. Directory Finder can show "The following information must be provided in order to start: Correct size search settings (Search by size), or uncheck the option to search by size." even if the Search by size setting is unchecked.
18. The contents of File Recovery tool's Deep Scan tab does not scale properly, the list box can be cut from the right, for example.
19. Registry Information tool only shows the data of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_USERS under "Data stored by root key" tab
20. The program can list directories and files relating to templates as temp directories/files.
21. Clean and Fix My Computer returns too few results if you run it after aborting a previous scan. Same issue might also exist in the REgistry Cleaner.
22. When you 2-click on the blue underlined text, nothing at all happens, while normally the user should be directed to the correct tab.
23. Under Tools>Program Maintenance>Remove Registry Compactor backups, no files are found and removed. They do exist as jv16pt_bak2 in the C:\Windows\System32\config
24. Registry Compactor sometimes doesn't run, instead shows "Failed to modify the registry" error message.
25. It's not possible to use Mass File Renamer's Find and Replace feature to remove data, that is, to use an empy Replace string.
26. Under special circumstances, the Uninstaller can leave pieces of registry data behind.
27. On running Tools>Program Maintainence>Remove Registry Compactor backups, it said it removed 11 backups. HOWEVER, it still left a number of backup files behind
28. Registry Compactor doesn't always compact all the selected hives.
29. The More Functions menu in Directory Tool is not working properly, I intended to only use the 'Explore function', but the result was a 'Wipe' of the selected directory.
30. Registry Compactor can sometimes increase the size of the compacted hive, instead of reducing it.
31. Registry Compactor can get stuck to always starting with Windows.
32. Using the Directory Finder to find directories with between 1 MB and 10 GB of data doesn't find anything.
33. The program crashes if the Live Support feature is started, the same bug also causes the File Tool to crash.
34. The License Tool can make references to 30 day trial period even if the user has a 60 day trial version.
35. Program Maintenance Tool can't find all the backup files generated by the Registry Compactor.
36. Any tool can show a random access violation as you browse through and operate on the results list. Mainly applies to the Clean and Fix My Computer feature.
37. The Registry Finder can crash if the Search By Owner feature is used.
38. After creating shortcuts via Tools>Add Shortcuts to Desktop, there is no way to end jv16Pt.exe after the specific tool runs. Using Close or the red X does not end jv16Pt.exe and it just sits in memory.
39. It's very difficult to set the aggressivity level of the Registry Cleaner, File Cleaner and Clean and Fix my computer to the second top position by clicking the leveller.
40. Using the File Tool's Find and Replace feature can cause the program to crash.
41. It's not possible to translate the Compact with/out reboot dialog of the Registry Compact.
42. Tools>Program Maintenance still does not remove the registry compact backup files. It finds all of them; however, it does not delete any of them. It says it removes 13 files....but the files are not deleted.
43. Directory Tool: The 'Explore function' from "More Functions" runs against the HIGHLIGHTED line but the menu has the checkbox icon to incorrectly suggest the user that the feature works with the checked items.
44. The ShowMessage feature of the translation files isn't working, the program doesn't display the ShowMessage field when the translation is selected.
45. File drag and drop to PowerTools from Windows doesn't work properly.
46. The list control's background sometimes flickers or turns black when a tool is working. This is very specific to system setup, mainly happens under Windows 7.
47. Unit Testing tool can crash to "cannot create file".
48. Registry Manager cannot compare two snapshots against each other, only one snapshot against the current state of the registry.
49. Unit Testing tool can report that the File Cache is too small.
50. The last item of Backup tool's Tools menu doesn't get translated.
51. Note: Windows 7 x86 Professional successfully completes the Unit Test with 0 errors. HOWEVER, folder PT_Temp is left in C:\ directory. It should be removed on closing out Unit Test.
52. Text height is cut in half for 'Custom fix" in the Registry Cleaner result list.
53. Startup Manager doesn't show all programs that start with Windows.
Issues found in in-house testing
1. If saving a list, such as the results of the Registry Cleaner, to a HTML or XML format the resulting file can contain invalid characters. In other words, the data is not always encoded properly.
2. Saving lists to Base64 or Base16 encoded file formats does not work, the data is saved but it's not encoded at all.
3. Directory Tool's "Working. This might take a while. Please wait..." can contain cut text.
4. Clean and Fix My Computer can show that it didn't find any temp files even if it had found temp files.
5. The Help menu of the Main Window doesn't get translated when starting the program for the very first time and the Initial Setup is running.
6. Under Windows 64, the File > Save list as option doesn't always work with some tools, such as the Startup Manager and Software Uninstaller.
7. Using the Directory Tool without specifying "Directories to Find"
8. If you press down the Settings or Backups button from the Main Window a yellow background appears.
9. If the Registry Cleaner doesn't find any errors, the Scan Report's second and third tab are all clear and white which can be confusing.
10. The Uninstaller can suggest to move the License file from the program's installation directory to the desktop even if a copy of the license already exists in the desktop.
11. Explore feature of the File Tool should work with the currently highlighted file, not with the first selected file as it now does.
12. The Unit Testing tool can report FPO errors relating to common system paths such as C:\ or C:\Windows.
13. File Cleaner's Ignore Words section can contain "IgnoreWords" by default.
Improvements done
1. The Registry Compactor (that starts before Windows) is now fully translated, it uses the same translation file as PowerTools.
2. Improved the Unit Testing tool to better test the Registry Cleaner Engine against false positives. The improvement was inspired by bug #13.
3. Added a Buy button to the Check for Updates window, before there was only a buy link.
4. Added support for two phased registry compact during Windows reboot to handle those pesky hives that couldn't be compacted before.
5. Registry Compactor now automatically selects all hives when opened.
6. Increased the size of the Program Maintenace Tool's buttons.
7. All files and directories created by the Unit Testing tool is created under a single directory in C drive: C:\PT_Temp\
8. All the main action buttons are now fully scalable, this means they grow in size to better hold possibly longer texts used in a translated version of PowerTools.
9. Added more space to Mass File Renamer to better fit in longer texts used by other translations.
10. Renamed Backup Tool's "System Recovery" feature to "Registry Recovery" to avoid confusion with Windowws' System Recovery feature.
11. Added more data to English.lng to allow translators fully translate also the License Tool. This wasn't possible before for reasons of security.
12. Added an info message that is shown to the user before Registry Compactor restarts the computer.
