File Cleaner

I ask the file cleaner to list *.tmp only and to do so in C:\ only and skip the system directories.

The result is a list with a mass of files, all kinds of extensions, no one with "tmp" and files from the D:-disk as well !!!

Check or uncheck of "Unneeded files" makes no difference.

The Handbook is not helpful again.

Is this a bug, or is it up to me?

Am I the only one who thinks that this version has many shortcomings??

Well,

I did a trial with your settings and File cleaner did show me only .tmp files and only from C:\. Of course without C.\Windows\Temp, because it was told to skip system directories.

So, I can't discover a bug of the programm.

If "Unneeded files" is unchecked File cleaner won't start - so if you could start yours, there had to be activated another option and this could explain that you got a mass of files with other extensions than .tmp.

And, sorry, I just can't agree with your opinion about "many shortcuts".

Of course there are a few ones - but seen on the multitude of functions and features they are a little minority.

And even every Windows system still got some after years of development by hundreds of heads.

So we should give a big chance to the developper, give as many help as possible without forgetting to motivate him, by doing constructive critics and not destructive once.

Thanks, you brought me a lot closer, but not close enough; here is a description of my settings and the result. Pitty I cannot send pictures, otherwise I should have added some screenshots.

In the File Cleaner

Screen "files to find": Unneeded files is checked; empty files is unchecked, unused fonts is unchecked

Screen "more": only " list all files..." is checked

Screen "options": skip system directories is checked, Only scan C:\ is checked. Drive D:\ is NOT CHECKED!

Yet I get all files in C:\Temp, that's OK, but also all files in D:\Temp and that one was excluded !!

Please, tell me how..

About the shortcomings:

I have always praised Juoni for his beautiful work, but in this version, escpecially while testing the dutch translation in all ins and outs, I encounter too many things that are illogical, unexpected and not intuitive. The first day I used JV16 2005 I found the bug in the File Organizer, the Handbook is not much more than a list of content, leaving the explications much too short and not to the point. Might be I am not clever enough, but as I said before, the online help of earlier versions told you exactly what to do, chapter after chapter, subject after subject. And that I am missing now.

Furthermore: I use JV16 from the first version and never had any problem with it. With 2005, I have problem after problem, see all my postings in 2 weeks.

But anyway, many thanks for your reaction.

Hello Rob,

Under "More" you do have two options beginning by "List all files ...".

If you checked the first one, it is clear that the content of D.\Temp is shown, because this option will bypass the drive options.

So there is a dominancy under the different choices.

For the dutch translation I think this will be "Blackdex", because my Dutch-knowledge would be to poor to help.
