V 590 found `500 problems Question for JV16

I just installed v 590 over 580-- and ran reg cleaner--found about 500 problems in several categories---where 580 found 1 or 2 or none. Was this to be expected? If so, can JV16 developer orsomeone explain the big change?

I'm also having problems with the latest builds of PT. I get wildly different results from one scan to the next.

However hawkeyelom I would suggest in your case I'd uninstall the previous version of PT and do a clean install of the latest build.

See if your results differ after that.

Personally for registry cleaning i'm preferring PT Lite to JV16 PT.

Well, I did a clean install and lost all my previos backups--thanks for the bad advice--Now I can't restore anything if there wqs a peroblem with the fixes.---I should have left well enough alone

That's why you should do a backup of your backups frequently. I just set the backup directory to my D drive (D:/Software/jv16 PowerTools/Backup) and all is well.

Also, I had over 680 registry errors show up with the new version and fixed them all. So far, no problems have arisen from it. I pretty well trust Jouni at this point.

What scan setting are you using? The aggressive?

I find it easier to set the paths to my D drive PT directory and just reset them on a fresh install.

Hmmm... what about a feature to PT 2010 which would allow you to backup and restore the settings, backups etc of PowerTools?

Excellent idea, but it will depend on where the settings are saved to. If you do an uninstall, will that affect it?

And number 3:

During installation / setup the installer asks what drive and directory you want the backup files in.

What scan setting are you using? The aggressive?

No Normal-I still don't understand all the errors found though many were MRUs- as this was on by default--I changed this for future scans.

I can confirm that 590 finds more errors than 580. I ran a normal (not aggressive) scan with 580 and it found 26 errors. I then installed 590 and ran a scan and it found 90 errors, more than 3 times as many. Is this normal? Is it safe to fix or delete these errors? What has changed in 590 to make it find so many more errors?
