229. Directory Tool: aborted wipe operation continues invisibly after all Powertools windows including the main window are closed. __ 923 x64 w7 (.)

Multiple bugs were revealed during this test. From memory:

1. Dragged and dropped 5 test folders to the tool.

2. Selected a folder having almost 400 files.

3. Opened an explorer window for that folder.

4. Did More functions-->Wipe.

5. Replied "No" to the backup dialogue.

6. Clicked the Abort button.

7. Message acknowledged Abort and tool window's list body turned all black.

8. Clicking several times in the black list body produced another backup dialogue.

9. Closed the tool and its window disappeared.

10. Crash logger reported an access violation. Chose the Continue option.

11. Explorer window showed files were dropping from the target folder.

12. Closed the main window which dropped PowerTools from the task bar.

13. Started a new PowerTools session and added the files in the target folder to the File Tool.

14. Files were disappearing from the explorer window and the File Tool window.

15. Task Manager showed two active jv16PT.exe processes.

16. Closed the File Tool and the main window which took one of the jv16PT.exe processes out of the Task Manager list.

17. Files kept disappearing from the explorer window.

18. Killed the remaining jv16PT.exe process.

I'm afraid the debug log was overwritten by the second PowerTools start. Here's the bugreport.txt showing the AV (probably won't help):

The development of PowerTools 2010 is going on quickly. We are currently doing in-house testing with a new build, I was hoping to get it released today but we found more little issues to fix so the release will be made most likely tomorrow.

At the moment it looks like the first Release Candidate is ready within the next two weeks. Usually the final product version has been released after 3 or 4 Release Candidates.

The uninstaller of jv16 does not remove the jv16 folder from the Start Menu when jv16 is uninstalled...even after a reboot. The folder has the "Uninstall jv16 PowerTools 2010 BetaX" link in it and that is probably preventing the uninstaller from removing the folder...even after a reboot. 15. When using some tools for the very first time, their default column sizes are wrong. For example, with the Registry Manager most of the columns are too wide. 16. When a tool opens, its results list should always be in focus. In other words, it must be possible to use the mouse's scroll wheel to start to browse the result list after a tool window has been opened. This was not the case with most tools, such as the Startup Manager or Software Uninstaller. 17. Sometimes when you closed a Message Panel, the tool window's button bar would move out causing some action buttons to become invisible. 18. Improved the Check for Updates window content handling. 2. It's now possible to send messages over the Internet to the Main Window of PowerTools, without the need of user clicking to Help > Check for Updates. 3. Increased the size of the Unit Testing Tool's window. 4. Clicking Abort now closes most of the tool windows - there is no need to show an empty list of results to the user if the user has clicked Abort. 5. Improved the detection of incorrect / corrupted translation file. 6. The program now saves a separate Debug Log of the first run, in order to catch any possible bugs that occur during the Initial Setup. 7. Added debug code in order to better track any "AssertEx Failed!" error messages. 8. Added more debug to better detect problems with FileCache and SysCache creation and loading. 9. Added a SelfTest feature to the Unit Testing Tool, it will detect any missing or corrupted files from PowerTools' installation directory. 10. I made faster progress yesterday by fixing almost all of the remaining reported issue of the PowerTools 2010 beta6, and that is why a new build was released a few minutes ago.

The only(?) major issue remaining is the problem with the Registry Compactor not running properly with the Compact with reboot option. After that issue has been addressed it's time for Release Candidate 1.

The list of translations of the Quick Tutorial does not have the currently active translation (English) selected by default, no translations are selected when the list is generated. 28. Clicking the background of the translation list in Quick Tutorial causes the window to flash. 29. Help > Read License Agreement does not work, because no License Agreement exists under PowerTools' installation directory. 30. Age system tab is visible in Settings even as the Age and Comment Systems will not be a part of PowerTools 2010 (these features will be implemented to PT 2011). 31. After the program has been uninstalled, the program's installation directory is left behind (the folder is empty though). 32. Live Support window does not scale well enough to be used with other translations (such as X_English). 33. It's not possible to translate many parts of the Message Panels. 40. It's only possible to translate the first root key names in Registry Info tool (in reality, it shouldn't be possible to translate any of the root keys). 41. The "Registered To:" text doesn't get translated if you change the language of the program on-the-fly, that is, without restarting the program. Improvements done 1. Improved the Check for Updates window content handling. 2. It's now possible to send messages over the Internet to the Main Window of PowerTools, without the need of user clicking to Help > Check for Updates. 3. Increased the size of the Unit Testing Tool's window. 4. Clicking Abort now closes most of the tool windows - there is no need to show an empty list of results to the user if the user has clicked Abort. 5. Improved the detection of incorrect / corrupted translation file. 6. The program now saves a separate Debug Log of the first run, in order to catch any possible bugs that occur during the Initial Setup. 7. Added debug code in order to better track any "AssertEx Failed!" error messages. 8. Added more debug to better detect problems with FileCache and SysCache creation and loading. 9. Added a SelfTest feature to the Unit Testing Tool, it will detect any missing or corrupted files from PowerTools' installation directory. 10. Improved the amount of information the Anti-Malware tool's Update feature gives during the update process. 11. Reduced the amount of RAM the Unit Testing Tool uses. 12. The Language menu is now visible in the Main Window based on the following policy: If the program is being used with the Simple Mode, the language menu is visible only if there are other translations than English in the \Languages directory. If the program is being used with Advanced Mode, the language menu is always visible, even if there are no other translations available. 13. Improved the safety of the Service Manager, it now warns the user if critical system services are being modified. 14. Improved the safety of the Registry Cleaner under 64 bit Windows. 15. Improved the product's Uninstaller to also remove all debug files generated by PowerTools. 16. Improved the way the Unit Testing Tool reports the progress of the RDA test's data generation, and made the data generation faster. 17. Clean and Fix my computer, Registry Cleaner and File Cleaner will from now on ignore all data relating to anti-virus, firewall, server and backup software by default. 18. Improved the product's Uninstaller to also remove all possible left-over files and registry data of the Unit Testing Tool of PowerTools. 19. Improved the support of Global Ignore List by the system health analysis. It now knows to skip temp files found from directories ignored via the Global Ignore List, and it also can now skip registry errors ignored via the GIL. 20. Further increased the size of the Unit Testing Tool's window. 21. Improved the layout of the Anti-Malware window. 22. The program now shows an error message if the user attempts to use the Registry Find & Replace or the Find and Replace within file(s) tool with identical search and replace words. Fixes in the making: 1. Under Main Window > tools/add shortcuts to desktop once you add a shortcut to the desktop the icon is white, if you right click on the icon, go to properties, the target field, start in field, comments field all are incorrect. 2. Warning and Tip boxes sometimes show up too big.

I think it's the time to release one last build, and if everything goes smoothly, the next released version shall be Release Candidate 1. A new build should be ready tomorrow.

I'm afraid I have some bad news: my main work computer broke yesterday. It's currently being repaired but this will cause a few days of extra delay, which wasn't really something that we needed at this time.

The computer got back from the repair shop today, I'll need to do some re-installing (Windows 7 mainly). I should be able to continue my work tomorrow.

In the mean time I'm using Linux for basic internet access and also to work on updating the Handbook for the PowerTools 2010. It will be ready for the next beta build.

Everything is back working again, I'll have to spend most of today to re-install all the tools I need for my work. Everything should be back on track on Monday.

However, the crash corrupted all my local backups. I was forced to go back to a remote backup which is a week old...

That's what happens when you believe when they say that RAID is safe, with RAID you'll need less backups. Well, my RAID 10 just failed wiping all the data it had. Nice.

I'm sorry you had a crash. This is one of the reasons why I will not do Raid any more. My hard drive crashed a few years ago and took most of my photography with it. Your program is great and the upgrades are cheap. Hopefully everyone appreciates what you do because I do.

On another note. Maybe you should call this jv16 PowerTools 2011. It's not meant to be a rude comment. Thank You once again - A premium user

Changing the name from "2010" to "2011" is something that we have been thinking for a while now. But lets see.

This morning I have started to recode the work that was lost during the computer crash.

I lost a few days worth of work but I'm trying to get all the lost work done during this day. It should be possible because this time I don't have to think for the solutions, I'll remember how I solved the problems before so it shouldn't take very long to get back on track.

So far today I have recoded the Registry Compactor, it should be fully working again. Of course, we'll need to retest everything as well. :
