The next beta version of PowerTools 2010 will be released for beta testers most likely tomorrow. It's currently on its final in-house testing round.

I just sent the upcoming Beta6 to a handful of users of this forum for a quick preview. If they confirm that the Initial Setup freezing issue has indeed been solved, and no other major issues are found, the Beta6 will be released for public beta testing shortly.

Version 2.0.0.922:

On an x86 Windows 7 notebook: initial setup completed in ~ 5 minutes with no problems apparent (with version 2.0.0.796, it froze).

On an x64 Windows 7 desktop: initial setup completed in ~ 3 minutes with no problems apparent (with version 2.0.0.796, it did not freeze).

On both systems, these apparently ran OK (although I did not look deep into the details):

*** C&FMC (most aggressive)

*** History Cleaner

On the x86 Windows 7 notebook, this one got an "Out of memory" exception per the crash logger:

On the x64 Windows 7 desktop, this one ran to completion but only had file reference type errors in the results:

On the x86 Windows 7 notebook, I started the program again just to look at some main window menus. When I closed the main window, the crash logger reported a "Privileged instruction" exception. This happened twice in a row on the x86 system. It did not happen on the x64 system.

Are you sure? It's easy to make this conclusion simply because by default the Registry Cleaner has the "do not group the results" option selected under the Grouping tab.

I'm sure. I had changed the grouping to "error type". I just made the run again:

Version 2.0.0.922 with a non-empty SysCache.dat:

On the other hand, Version 2.0.0.796 with a regenerated SysCache.dat also only shows file reference type errors. Maybe that's correct?

Version 2.0.0.922:

On an x86 Windows 7 notebook:

*** Unit test usually "freezes" in the first minute or so, according to the crash logger. Task manager shows the program using 50% cpu in spite of what the crash logger says. These logs show a "freeze" after only ~ 12 seconds.

*** The 5th or 6th attempt (all in different sessions) has not yet frozen. It is logging errors. I'll add the logs here when it finishes or freezes.

The button now appears in the Settings window when you change the font.

However, when you go back to the window, in the same or a later session, to use the button, it is no longer there.

There were a few issues in the Beta6 detected during the pre-release testing phase, we'll sort these out before the release. The Beta6 should be out later in this week, but not today or tomorrow.

I just installed this on Win Xp Pro and it keep freezing on me.I wouldn't go any farther with the program.
