I have analyzed the problems with Beta5 and there seems to be at least three problems relating to the program starting up:

1. The program can crash to External Exception when started.

2. The program can freeze to the Initial Setup and never complete.

3. The program can automatically close and show an Invalid Pointer Operation error.

After a few days of working on these issues, I have been finally able to locate and fix the issue number 1. I was hoping that all these three issues would have been linked and that fixing one of them would have lead to the other issues as well. I'm afraid this was not the case.

I hope to get the other two fixed soon as well, but it can take days.

An updated version of the Beta5 has now been released in the Beta forum. It should solve two of the three main problems of the original Beta5.

After these issues have been fixed, it's time to focus on the smaller issues.

I have been working hard these few days in fixing bugs from the Beta5. The remaining issue, that is, the bug that causes the Initial Setup to freeze has been my main target. On my way to it I have been able to fix half a dozen bugs that can cause the program to crash or freeze. But so far I haven't been able to pinpoint the bug that I'm after.

I'm making good progress and I'm very hopeful that a fixed version will be made available during the weekend.

When updatingn File Recovery...have ability to "Clear or Delete" unwanted files also.

The problem is even after undeleting "wanted" files, there are still left behind unwanted files that should be cleared off disk, for privacy and space, etc.

I have not found a decent undelete program since Symantec stupidly got rid of the Norton Undelete. jv16 is a pretty good one, and fast also. The other ones out there for Windows 7 that is, are junk...or are too beyond everyday file recovery.....in addition, they show deleted files, including ones that can't be recovered...which should be filtered out.

Thanks....please put this feature in.....and if possible a file preview. Heck....you guys should come up with a separate, simple undelete program, just like the N.Undelete....integrated with the recycle bin....the simpler the better.

I have been working throughout the weekend, and here are the results so far:

Issues Fixed (since the original Beta5 release) 185. File Tool: “Mass file rename” function gets an access violation (AV). 186. File Tool: “Mass file rename” window's buttons lack the colored icon. 187. File Tool: “Mass file rename” window's icons do nothing when clicked, perhaps due to the AV. 191. File Tool: the “Execute” icon does nothing. I expected it to open a .txt file in notepad. 192. File Tool: the “View” icon gets an access violation (AV). I expected it to open a .txt file in notepad. 193. File Tool: “Explore” icon and More functions-->Explore misbehave a little bit: If only one file is selected, but some other file is highlighted, the file that shows in the Explorer window is the highlighted one, not the selected one. 195. File Tool: “Split” – the Options tab is empty. 196. Many tools contain empty drop down lists, for example: File Tool: “Split” – the two drop down lists in the Split settings tab are empty. 199. File Tool: I clicked the Wipe icon with one file selected. The file changed but did not get “wiped.” 202. File Organizer: can create folders that confuse Windows. {.} 784 x64 w7 1. Detection of some program data (such as Temp Dirs) does not honor the Global Ignore List. 2. Registry Cleaner>Most Aggressive Mode. The registry cleaner is improperly parsing Environmental Variables in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SeCEdit. The exported registry key is attached. 3. The About window mentions a trial period of 30 days, although the Beta5 gives the user a trial period of 60 days. 4. Registry Compactor doesn't always open when run under Windows 7. 5. Known bug fixed: All features that requires the user to select a file using the Windows Open or Save To dialog such as "Save List As", "Export to .Reg" etc. do not always work with 64 bit Vista. 6. Some texts of the Quick Tutorial window are truncated. 7. The program does not always honor the Global Ignore List. 8. File Tool's and Directory Tool's file drag and drop support is not working (Note: this is a partial fix, drag and drop is not yet working when dropping to the list, but other parts of the window now work). 9. Still no luck with fixing the Initial Setup freezing problem. I spent days solely on that problem but still I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem and fix it. Therefore I have been now fixing the other, smaller issues to make some progress. All these issues have to be fixed anyway, so I might as well do them now.

I don't think there will be any more updated builds to the Beta5, the next release will be the Beta6 with most, if not all, of the issues fixed.

It's difficult to say because it's always tricky to predict how long a bug fix is going to take, but it will be matter of weeks rather than months.

I haven't experienced the "freeze at Initial Setup" issue on my x64 Windows 7 system. Later today, I'll see what happens on a notebook with x86 XP Pro SP3.

In my tests I have found Windows XP to be the best environment to see the problem, but the problem is not limited to any specific Windows.
