Test Version 13 of PT 2010 has been released to a very small number of people. The reason for the release is only to see if the problem of the Registry Cleaner showing False Positives has been fixed, thus the Test Version 13 has only been given to the users who reported False Positives with that last version.
After this, everything would be ready for the first public beta version. However, there are still a few things I would like to get included to the first beta so it will not be released quite yet.
Here is the Change Log for Test Version 13:
Bugs Fixed (since TestVersion 12):
1. "Flush cache" says only "Done!". It should tell you to restart the program.
2. History Cleaner: after a "Show data" for a line, "Show data" for any other line lists the data from the first done "Show data." This happens even when you restart the tool.
3. History Cleaner: Running Show Data feature (from Right-Click menu) many times in a row caused the tool's list to become not clickable.
4. The message after the "initial startup" ends says "… will ready..." The message needs to be recrafted. It also needs to demand attention (was hidden by non-PT windows).
5. Start Menu Tool: does not reset its list when you close the tool. You get duplicate lines with a restart of the tool.
6. Service Manager: something is not reset when you close the tool
7. Software Uninstaller: something is not reset when you do a Custom Uninstall.
8. Registry Compactor: selected hives, whether compaction occurs or doesn't, drop from the list. Therefore, the "Size after" column results can no longer be seen.
9. The Initial Setup fails to correctly create the two backups.
10. Registry Finder: when you select a line and do "Save as a backup file" or "Export as .reg file," the action occurs, but the line then drops off the list.
11. Directory Tool: with only one item in the list and nothing selected, More functions button-->Explore generates this message: : Please select only one item.
12. Automation Tool: Does not correctly reset its list when you restart it or create a new task. Duplicate lines appear in the list.
13. Directory Finder: does not correctly reset when restarted. The list's content doubles, then triples, and so on. It also doesn't honor some tool settings changes, such as grouping, in subsequent starts
14. Registry Cleaner's Scan Report's Registry Health gauge does not work.
15. Startup Manager's Enable/Disable button shows "Internal Error smf2-eb1"
16. Registry Cleaner could shows false positives, it says that file does not exist while it does.
17. The second Abort button of the Duplicate File Finder does not work, and if the first Abort is pressed the feature still reports that the "scan is now finished and the results are listed in the result window".
18. Cancelling a file move/copy operation with the File Tool causes the list to freeze.
19. A file move/copy operation with very large files might cause PowerTools to hang.
20. With "Highlight selected items" checked (not checked by default), the list would flicker every time when items were selected and the user clicked the list.
21. Bug already reported fixed wasn't fixed: File tool: "Copy/Move to" with 'n' files selected only copies/moves 'n-1' files to the target.
22. Registry Manager's and Cust Restore's Abort buttons do not turn to green when clicked and thus are shown as unused in Program Debug TOol even if they have been used.
23. Registry Find & Replace: the results window is missing two upper right corner buttons.
24. File Recovery: the tool's window stays protected after the results window is completed. It didn't go away until all other PT windows were closed.
25. File Recovery: grouping by drive letter does not work properly.
26. Clicking the "Show Only" filters in Startup Manager caused the list to be empty on every other click, and populated on every other click.
27. Starting the Anti-Malware tool caused "Scan the following files..." and "Scan the following download directories..." to be automatically checked.
28. The Startup Manager downloads StartupCache.dat, but does not use it for the list's description column.
29. When the Debug Tool starts, without warning, it closes all other tool and results windows.
30. Clean and fix my computer only has only "List control" in the right click menu...
31. ...And using aby of its features shows an error message "Internal error GRT-LIST"
32. File Tool can randomly crash, a possible error message is "List index out of bounds (x)"
33. The "Working please wait" panel was not properly placed to Start Menu Tool if a Message Window was attached to the tool.
34. When Fix is clicked, an Abort button in the Start Menu Tool list window shows red later even if it is successfully clicked.
35. "Move to Recycle Bin" feature of the File Tool reported wrongly that "0 was removed" when files were in fact removed (i.e. moved to the Recycle Bin).
36. "Move to Recycle Bin" feature of the File Tool often says "Failed to access file" while the file can be accessed without any problems.
37. Start Menu Tool could show duplicate results, especially with the List Empty Folders feature enabled.
38. Start Menu Tool does not list all broken shortcuts.
Other Improvements (since TestVersion 12):
1. Added columns for "Installation Path" and "Main Executable" to the Software Uninstaller.
2. Improved the Open In RegEdit feature, it will now select the given entry from the RegEdit window as well!
3. Removed the Color Coding feature from a few tools in which it's not relevant. Color Coding means that the Top Panel will show all valid file and registry references as green and invalid as red. This is not needed for some tools, such as the File Tool or Duplicate File Finder as all the files listed by these tools always exist.
4. Improved the accuracy the Registry Cleaner's GUI displays what part of the data is the filename/directory that doesn't exist.
5. Redesigned the GUI of the Program Debug Tool to better match the GUI of the other tools. Also added support for the Right-Click menu.
6. Added message to the Program Debug Tool to let the user know that if he is using the Simple mode, not all program features will be visible to him.
7. Added File Reference column to Backup Tool's Custom Restore feature. This allows the user to easily launch the Windows Explorer to any referenced filenames included in the backup file.
8. Improved the Explore feature available in many Right-Click menus: it will now open the Windows Explorer to the selected directory, but also highlights the selected file as well!
9. Greatly improved the speed of the Backup Tool. Before, opening different tabs caused the list being regenerated and that could take many seconds if the user has many backups. Now, the list is generated once and the same data is used in the future allowing the user to browse through the backups very quickly.
10. Added "Generating the list of backups" progress panel with Abort button to the Backup Tool. There is no point in using only one generic "Working" panel in one of the most important features of the program.
11. Added Status Bar and Main Menus to the File Find and Replace and Registry Find and Replace tools.
12. Made "Use approximate search" enabled by default for the Registry Finder. The Approximated search is much faster than the regular search, yet provides the same results in most cases. On a regular home desktop PC with Windows Vista, a full registry search using the Approximate Search takes 20 seconds while the regular search takes 68 seconds.
13. With some systmes there is a few second delay after clicking Registry Cleaner's Start button to the time the first Registry Cleaner window actually closes even as the Results Window is already showing. This delay has now been removed.
14. Improved the compatibility with Windows 7: the System Optimizer is now available also under Win7.
15. Added the Print feature under the File menu of all the relevant tools.
16. All the main menu features, such as File > Save As or Tools > Search, will now show an error message if they are attempted to use while the tool is still working.
17. Improved the Quick Tutorial to better fit the texts of future translations.
18. Added debug code in order to fix the following issue: File Finder: "Move to recycle bin" got Failed to access for 65 out of 243 selected files (which were just .dat files from a PT preferences folder).
19. Removed the Progress Bar from the Registry Finder. The Progress Bar was based on the number of threads running and therefore didn't give a good estimation of the actual progress, instead it was rather confusing.
20. Sliced a few more seconds from the run times of the Registry Cleaner, Registry Finder and the Clean and Fix my computer features.
21. From now on, the Preference Saving feature of different tools is disabled by default if the user has selected to use the Simple user interface. With the Advanced user interface the feature is enabled by default, just like with previous versions. Users who use the Simple user interface can enable the feature from the Settings as well.
22. The "Select highlighted" menu feature and highlighted count in the status bar are now available in all tools that have lists.
23. Clicking the same "Show Only" filtering settings of the Startup Manager caused the list to be regenerated every even when there was no need to do. This no longer happens.
24. Added "List Control" Right-Click feature to Start Menu Tool.
25. The "PowerTools will now restart" message after the Initial Setup could be missed. Now it pops up better.
26. Anti-Malware tool is now fully implemented.
