Could someone please answer some questions ????

I want to remove the Norton Anti virus program from my computer.

I will first start the process by using the Windows Add/Remove program.

My Question is this?

Using JV PT and the registry finder will I be able to remove all traces of NAV.

I typed in the following words separately as a test and the results are as follows:

"Norton" --------and it returns 562 items

" Norton Anti virus" --------and it returns 266 items

"Symantec"--- and it returns 954 items

Is it possible to use this method?

Which of the above ITEMS or OPTIONS would I use for the removal??

Well, I think the first you should uninstall by using Windows Add/Remove feature - which will use the uninstall-procedure of Norton itself.

After this you still can use jv16 Reg. Cleaner and even Reg. Finder to eliminate the hidden traces of Norton Antivirus.

Attention: Just make sure to do a backup of the removals by

PowerTools, as you can go back if some problems will occur.

If Norton Anti Virus is the onliest programm of Norton or Symantec on your computer, you may use any of this search words. But if you still have another product of them, so you should use only "Norton Anti Virus" as search word.

For the backups - if there are a lot of items to remove - I allways split them by selecting each time a certain category of items. See under "Select" => "By frequent column ..." or "By similarities in ...".

So if there would be a problem it is easier to localize by restoring later on.

I too had to remove Norton System Works including Norton Antivirus because of slowing down my PC more and more. I followed the following path:

- uninstall all components using Windows uninstall

- search and delete the following files and directories using windows explorer: Symant, Symevn(t), Norton

- search and remove from the registry the following items: Symant(ec), Norton, Symevn(t), Livere(g), Liveup(date), Livesu(bscribe). (the letters in parenthesis are for clarification only, do not enter)

- then do a regclean

- at least, my PC was still running after all this, and much faster. Of course, you have to install another antivirus program.

You will see, there are thousands of entries left in the registry after uninstalling Norton programs. I will never use one of these again. Hope this helps.
