The problem of the missing Right-Click menu of the Registry Cleaner is now fixed, as well as the problem of incorrect number of items after Deletion or Fixing of errors.

Next I will work on the issues with 64 bit systems and release an update, hopefully later today.

As far as I can tell, all the problems relating to 64 bit Vista (or 64 bit XP) are now fixed. The fixed version will be released shortly, after some in-house testing.

Here is a test build 542: http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/jv16pt_setup_hb_542_test.exe

Feel free to install it over any existing version of PT 2009 but only install this version if you want to do some testing! This is not the final version yet because it still has some remaining issues, mainly that it cannot yet properly create a backup of certain Wow64 registry entries that exist in 64 bit Vista. Under 32 bit systems this release should work perfectly, though.

According to this chained list, since v.1.9.0.531, up to 20 fixes of 21 attempted for x86 PCs have been successful (18 confirmed, 2 pending confirmation, and 1 did not work).

And the File Tools' performance improvement when filling optional columns is noticeably better!

I just tried the .542 test version & it found 35,000 errors! The majority of these were labeled "Registry key with incorrect permissions or owner". I selected "all" & "fix". It is still running & it looks like the incorrect permissions entries are all unable to be fixed. Is this a genuine problem - or do I need to exempt these from the next cleaning scan?

I have administrative permissions.

OK - Registry cleaner had to delete over 34,000 entries when I ran the fix. (Yes - I made sure to back them all up!)

Rebooted & test drove my PC & some apps - All is well. This is amazing that the .540 version didn't detect over 34,000 keys in Win XP Pro 64 bit!

When you did "Fix" for your ~ 34,000 "Registry key with incorrect permissions or owner," did you use the Registry Cleaner backup dialog?

Does the Backup Tool actually show that backup?

If your answers are "Yes" "Yes," I'll mark the issue as fixed.

Don't see any mention here of the Registry Manager problem I reported ("Open With Menu" and "Search Menu" lists being empty.) Is no one else experiencing/noticing this? Also, I repeat the complaint I've raised several times in this forum about the inconsistency of reporting installed software in these tools. This behavior persists year after year. So far as I'm concerned, it's a defect when software that has been long installed abruptly pops up in these lists as if it were new.

If you don't mind Tullik, I'll use this thread to describe the work going on with the product at the moment.

Firstly, we are working on the 64 bit registry access problem. I'm hoping to release the next version with full support for 64 bit operating systems.

Another thing under development is new debugging tool. This is how it works: When you start the program in debug mode, all the buttons shall have red font meaning you haven't tested them yet. After you click the button, it turns green and remains green for a period of time. So this enables you to see very easily which features you have tried already and which you haven't, the system will also contain a simple tool that allows you to list which tools still have buttons in red (i.e. which you haven't yet tried). And after you have tested all the features (i.e. everything is showing green), you can use the debug system to generate a test report file that you can then send to us that shows you have tested the product through. In the future, we will use this system when giving out free personal licenses for beta testers.

The reason for the new debugging tool is simple: I'm not very happy about the quality of the product at the moment, the bugs of PT 2009 haven't been dangerous or very serious, but still, there have been too many bugs and we are again making changes to improve the quality of the product.

Third thing under way is the improvements to the main GUI that gives it support for long text captions. Now with some translations (e.g. German) the words are simply too long to fit the main window's GUI and clipping occurs. This looks very bad and makes the program difficult to use. This problem is already 99% fixed, just a few things left to do and that problem is sorted out.

And finally, one developer is working on the next version of the image tab component used in many tools of PowerTools. The new version allows you to disable the auto scroll feature and use the tab component by clicking the scroll buttons. Also the width of the scroll buttons can be adjusted.

So as you can see, many great things are coming up, that's the reason I don't wish to release a new version of the product just yet. Instead, we'll wait a few more days and get all of the improvements described above included.
