System Optimizer bug when a certain key is missing?
A new PC with Vista HP SP1 did not have this key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Ten of the 20 tweaks depend on the presence of that key. Those 10 failed to apply.
Furthermore, after the attempt, this key appeared in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Or perhaps that was an error in the OEM's distribution?
To test that, I removed the ridiculous key and tried the apply again.
The ridiculous key was back in the registry, so it was put there by System Optimizer.
This key was in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
Adding the Explorer key below the Policies key allowed the 10 tweaks to apply successfully.
