Is there a way to make a message box follow its associated window when that window is minimized and restored?

If there is a way, perhaps it could be a Settings tool option to accommodate users that prefer the current behavior, which is a message box always shows until you kill it by clicking its "X" button, or, of course, by closing its associated window.

They don't happen often, but have happened more than once:

1. When a tool finishes its list, the progress indicator/Abort button in the center of the list still shows.

2. In the completed Registry Cleaner raw list results window, the running indicator box in the upper right corner of the window still shows a few "shadows" (not full characters).

3. In the main window, one, sometimes both, of the upper right corner icons don't show (a rectangle, or two rectangles, of white space shows instead). It has happened only two or three times, when the main window first appears.

4. At the margin between a PT window and its message box, small pieces of underlying windows show, overlaying just small areas of the PT window and its message box.

5. With lots of open windows (PT and non-PT) and just part of a PT list window and its message box visible, a click on a visible part of the list window brings the clicked window all the way to the front, but not the message box (it comes part of the way).

These issues aren't serious. They are very infrequent, and an affected window "normalizes" with a minimize/restore or other quick mouse action.

The progress indicator/Abort button in the center of the list went away when I clicked the title bar to get this screenshot (scroll to see the "shadows"):

To reproduce (look at step 4 first):

1. Before launching PT2009, delete, rename, or move . . .\Settings\Tips.dat.

2. Start PT2009 beta3 and, for one example, click the Registry Cleaner icon.

3. Drag-resize the tool window to make it wider. . . .

4. Added note: it does not happen with all tools (for example, History Cleaner, Startup Manager, and Software Manager don't do it). It also doesn't happen with a window already very wide -- to reproduce, you must make the window(s) to be widened small and exit PT2009 before doing step 1.

Yep, the next beta version will give a new 30 days.

If redseujac is correct ("..no need to compact the rest?") then I'd suggest repeating the numerical value in the right-hand column rather than having it show 'Unknown' which implies a problem of some form.

And that still doesn't deal with what seems like the more important issue (same behaviour on two separate computers); namely that, after rebooting, the table shows the same values as it did prior to the compacting (i.e. that compaction doesn't appear to have occurred).

Yes, this behaviour can be confirmed also for XP/SP3

Concerning Vista 64-bit:

Question 1:

In PT 2008, there is a file named SuperSoftwareIgnoreList.dat that is used to block the Software Manager from considering selected disks. Is this .dat file honored in PT 2009?

Question 2:

Have you been able to isolate/repair the Startup Manager and Registry Compactor issue for the impending Beta4 release? Do you need further info from me?

The answer to Question 1 is "Yes." You can also confirm this by temporarily adding a line containing only c:\ to SuperSoftwareIgnoreList.dat.

On the other hand, I could not force the program to look at Program Files on disks other than c:\. That may be a bug (or a flaw in how I tried). Anyway, I recall that you and I want Software Manager to look only at c:\. So, as far I'm concerned, someone else can call that a bug. :|

1) Principle/rule:

The word "software" is always singular!

2) So the following sentences are wrong and should be fixed in the English language file:

Wrong:

31 = The Software Manager allows you to see what software are installed to your computer.

Right:

31 = The Software Manager allows you to see what/which software is installed at/on your computer.

Wrong:

15 = Traces of these software...

Right:

15 = Traces of that/this software...

In the registry cleaner tool, doing a Ctrl+A and then right clicking and selecting Fix does not fix everything, you have to go through each category header to fix them. Relating to this, the fixing animation bar shows up before the actual dialog saying what is occurring.

Also, some tooltips stretch across the entire screen instead of going into a multi-line tooltip.

Edit: Being in the Vista age, shouldn't Segoe UI be the default font now?

If so, the effect is very logical - it wasn't possible to undo the tweak because the backup file was missing (due to uninstall before updating to latest version).

This is correct.

I think the System Optimizer should reflect from the start - i.e. after fresh installation of jv16 PowerTools (2009) - the actual status of the registry entries which you can tweak with System Optimizer. So, from the start, the several tweak possibilities should be checked/ticked or unchecked/unticked depending on the circumstance whether the corresponding registry entry contains already the tweak or not.

Indeed, the user could already have tweaked the setting(s) himself by having edited manually the registry or by having used another third party program.

Thus, the (initial) status of the System Optimizer tweak possibilities shouldn't depend on the existence/absence of a System Optimizer backup as a result of a previous tweaking with the PowerTools' System Optimizer itself.

I don't know if the System Optimizer is already designed that way, if not if the developer could design the tool that way.

What I know is that other similar tools already work like that.

System Cleaner - five issues when automated

When you define a System Cleaner task, all the settings seem to be remembered OK in the …\Settings\Preferences folder.

However, if you automate the task, there are some issues:

1. The automated task does not remember all the settings you chose. For example, the File Cleaner ignore words are not in the jvb. Therefore, the automated task results can be different than what you specified.

2. All their shortcuts have the same name (OneClickCleaner.jvb). As a result, the most recent shortcut replaces the previous one. As another result, if you delete any previously defined System Cleaner task from the Automation Tool list, the program deletes the shortcut of the most recently defined System Cleaner task. It would be better if the shortcut name was the user-provided name (such as System Cleaner test 2.jvb).

3. "Edit" for a System Cleaner task in the Automation Tool should be grayed out since the choices do not match those in the System Cleaner. "Manual edit" should remain.

4. Unlike a "Started" System Cleaner task, an automated System Cleaner task will create no backup, but there is no warning message when you click the "Create new automated task ..." button.

5. If the design objective is to allow only one automated System Cleaner task, then the button should cause a replace of the prior one, if present.
