You are correct, in Beta2 there is no Right-Click menu in the results window of the Registry Cleaner. This bug is now fixed, thank you for reporting!

The "Search by owner" feature has a small problem.

Namely, the two check boxes should be mutually exclusive (radio buttons?). For example:

* I had "Search from" set to C:\Windows and "Search by owner" set to "Look only for files which are owned by: TrustedInstaller.

* If the second check box is also checked, the program does not find TrustedInstaller files. It does list many files.

* If it is not checked, the program does find TrustedInstaller files.

Also, the "Search by owner" check boxes are not remembered in the "last settings used". They are remembered in a named preference.

Both these bugs are now fixed, thank you very much for reporting!

The feature described in the references fails just like it did in all versions of PT2007 and PT2008. It worked correctly in PT2006.

I'm afraid I haven't been able to reproduce this problem nor does this seem to occur with any other users, therefore I don't see it getting fixed any time soon.

To reproduce the second problem:

1. Before launching PT2009, delete, rename, or move Tips.dat.

2. Start PT2009 beta2 and, for one example, click the Registry Cleaner icon.

3. Drag-resize the tool window to make it wider.

Regarding additional filtering:

When typed, you already refuse to accept \/*?"<>|, but do accept the colon character.

This refusal implementation does not protect from invalid characters in a paste action.

I suggest you audit the input box when the user clicks the OK button (and the Cancel button also if the input box is not reset by the program), and simply substitute a space or dot or underscore for any of the nine invalid characters.

Following the instructions in the reference links, I can reproduce it at will in PT2007, PT2008, and now PT2009.

I only discovered this rather egregious bug while function testing the Registry Cleaner Custom Fix features. I suppose if no one ever actually uses the "Fix manually" feature, it does not need to be fixed. If that is the case, the feature does not even need to be in the tool.

You are correct, and this problem is now fixed. The Beta3 will contain the fix.

This bug is now fixed, thank you for reporting! The bug also affected the Delete files from directories and sub-dirs feature of the Automation Tool. The Empty Directories feature works, though.

Please refer to this PT2008 post.

Item 4 in that post, Run the Registry Cleaner …, runs as it should in PT2009 beta2. Perhaps the issue was fixed in a subsequent version of PT2008. In spite of the warning, the task creates a backup with a name generated by the program. Doing the backup is actually a good thing. I hope that is left as is.

Item 6 in that post, Clear all History/MRU items with the History Cleaner, is still an issue as described in that post. Specifically, the task doesn't clear anything.

I discovered the following bad sentence in the English.lng file:

61=You are about to delete erroneous registry data is recommended to be fixed, not deleted. Using the Fix option is always the better option. Are you sure you know what you are doing and want to proceed?

Looks like there's something missing :?

Tullik provided the instructions how to reproduce the problem and I have worked with that a lot, but I have been unable to reproduce the problem, with all my test environments (both virtual and real) the feature works exactly as it should.

Here's a simpler way to reproduce the Registry Cleaner Custom Fix Fix manually ... issue. It should work if you have a C drive:

1. Use regedit to add this key/entryname/data to the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

""No such file""=""C:\\anyname-x.rtf""

2. Run the Registry Cleaner to completion with raw list results format. Only the File reference scan is needed ...

3. Select just the line showing the jv16PT RC Custom fix test key, open it in regedit, and then click the Custom fix button.

4. In the Custom fix window, click the "Fix manually" radio button, change anyname-x.rtf to anyname-abc.rtf, then click the OK button.

Result: the fix did not happen and an unwanted, useless item was added to the registry.

Incidentally, the issue is more extensive than I realized.

I just placed an actual anyname-x.rtf file on my Desktop, refreshed the file cache, and repeated the test described in the prior post.

However, at step 4, I used the Custom fix default (Automatically select the best possible solution).

This was the result:
