Problems (Split from: Errors keep returning)

Experiencing this problem too with both builds (1.5.303 and 1.5.1.299)

In my case Registry Cleaner problem localised:

a) Only affects registry (i.e. 5 Hkey_* categories)

b) Only affects "High Severity Errors" (works fine with medium, low etc)

c) At a rough glance this problem seems to arise in the new version of jv16 where (under particular circumstances??) Registry Cleaner is unable to process certain path or file changes??

Is anyone affected running more than a simple unpartitioned C:\ drive on a relatively small hard disk?

An immediate set of "particular circumstances" may well be that the latest version of jv16 is not designed to work with partitioned hard drives and multiple drives - just a straightforward C:\ drive on a single HDD - or alternatively may just have a "bug" in this area?

"Avoidance" doesn't not "fix" problems but may well compound them!

I too am unclear as to how "Don't show items that would be automatically created" would offer a "fix"? Surely, at best it would disengage a malfunctioing part of the programme or at worst leave the root problem open to grow unchecked - as well as closing off the opportunity of getting to the root of the malfunction too??

Does anyone else get a "red icon" next to "saved preferences" - and what does it mean please and should it be there?

Whether or not Registry Cleaner can process path and file changes is clearly a core process. It is also not isolated and is clearly affecting different people in varying ways.

I very much hope this "bug" will be given top priority. Longstanding JV16 user and thought the early JV16 programmes were superb and look forward to be able to use the latest 1.5 version with the same confidence.

Hey "eponymous",

This little red icon is there for everybody, the sense of it is to delete previously saved settings. The entire description you can find at page 20 of the handbook.

I don't think that "jv" created the "Don't show items ..." as a fix or an avoidance of a problem. For me this option makes sense - why showing up items and delete them, when they will be back next time?

My system is running with 11 partitions on 2 Hdd 40M + 60M and an external ZIP drive. PowerTools don't seem very afraid about this.

If English is not your first language, you can also just give me step-by-step instructions what you did before the problem shows.

- I'm sorry I wasn't clearer about context. I agree - under ordinary circumstances and for intended purposes - it is a valuable tool. However, within the context of this particular problem, if confused with a diagnostic it is likely to be more of a hindrance than a help!

Apologies for unclear English. Perhaps reference to c:\ drive and partitions is explained by Jepe's response:

I wasn't sure whether additional partitions and drives were a problem and whether JV was restricted to working with only a c:\

1) Re-run Reg Cleaner

Result all [severe* errors that have apparently been removed on previous run re-appear.

There is an option in the registry scanner under the advanced tab wich has something like... "Don't show (or ignore) items that will be re-created (or reapear)".

Can't remember it correctly.

Ill have to install PowerTools first on my laptop to be sure.

The option is: "Don't show items that would be automaticly re-created"

Hope this will do the trick.

Thanks for this. I fear the bit of the discussion concerning "Don't show items that would be automaticly re-created" function may have confused matters.

When everything is working properly, this function should filter out any items that would be "automatically re-created".

The problem in question is a different one and occurs irrespective of whether or not the "Don't show items that would be automatically re-created" function is turned on or off.

The problem is ALL severe errors appear to be removed and then if Reg Clean is immediately run again this reveals NONE have actually been removed. ie this is not a problem to do with "automatically re-created items" but a more fundamental problem to do with the failure to process all severe errors.

This also could have something to do what user-rights.

If you arn't an administrator on that system, then it could be you don't have the rights to actualy remove those items.

Also, can you try RegSupreme (Pro), and tell what happens if you use that.

And, this mabye is a stupid question, but do you press the 'Remove' button instead of the 'Fix' button, becouse the fix button trys to fix most of the entries, but then they still could be wrong. In that case, just press the 'Remove' button.

- fix: states has fixed O removed all ... when regsupreme re-run then all re-appear

- jv16 2005

- fix ... hangs (programme not responding - task manager)

You were right. Have not used fix for years. Used to take a lot of time in older versions and then still usually require remove so got in habit of simply using remove.

jv16 2005 has never worked - this problem together with (kernell32 invalid page fault and close down problems). Problems possibly arose at installation when previous programme overwritten. Jouni thought it would be worth waiting till this latest version. Kernell32 close down/crash problem now sorted but still reg cleaner problem.

Would like complete clean uninstall* and try starting again - *i.e. not just removing folders and files but every trace of jv16 on the system including "trial version" data which could well be corrupted and causing the regclean function to lock in someway (indeed this may well be where the user rights problem is located).

This problem has been going on since the launch of jv16 2005 and I would really appreciate a fix.
