4 questions about JV16 PT 2005

I studied JV16 2005 for the first time and have 4 questions up till now:

1: why can't the handbook open on the desired page

2: why no alphabetic search in Filetypes

3. how to alter the "openwith" like you do in WinXP filetype: I could not find that in the handbook, nor could I find it in the forum

4. In file organiser, I icopiedsome pdf files. After simulate/apply they

arrived in a ned directory, but although with different file-names, their content was quite the same and so was the size.

After that I copied a whole directory. After completion of the organiser, they were beuatifully arranged, but again, the same with the pdf-files and now the txt-fiels were complete different compared to the originals.

Hello,

To 1) Adobe Reader opens the handbook, as every pdf-file, on the first page.

From there you can go to any page using the shortcut "Shift-Ctrl-N" opening a pop-up window, where you can type in the desired page.

I'm using version 7, but I think this should also work with older versions.

To 2) I think you meaning "alphabetical listing" in Filetypes of Registry Manager. Well, with a click on the desired column-tab you can change showing from A-Z or Z-A.

To 3) The "Open with" in Registry Manager is only a listing of all installed possibilities, to add your own comments and to see when new items been added. I think there is nothing to change.

To 4) I tried all operations you described, but I could not reproduce the strange changes you had. Everything went the right way.

Yes, I know of course, but a way to open the desired page would be more pleasant, like a direct answer as in 1.4.1.

If I want to find in Filetype the extension "tbk", I want to press the "T" and not scrolling to the "T".

Read "openwith" as the method to change the opening of an extension, f.i. a file with extension "doc" has to be changed from winword to wordpad.

I organized all doc-files from directory "X" to directory "y" using the file-organiser. All docfiles had the same content. I made a jpg of it to show you, but don't no how.

Re 1). Well.. a lot of people weren't happy about the previous way of the help. That is way it has changed to this.

Re 2). The problem is, the the *. stands for all the extensions.

And you can't simply say, well remove them, becouse they are realy needed.

I Could think of an other option which could be added as an feature. a Second colum, without the *. in it. But i don't know.

Re 3). Read 'Open With Menu'. It is about the Menu, not the 'Open' feature of the extensions. If you select an file which has no program connected to it, you get a menu where you can select diffrent programs. That list of programs, is the list that is shown in PowerTools.

Re 4). And here, i have the same as Jepe. Can't find anything wrong.

If you want to show a picture here, you need to use the tags, or the 'Img' Button. Also, you can't upload a picture to this forum. You need to upload it to some webspace or something.

ad 2: you mention an asterix (*), I see a period (.). Are we talking about the same in File-Type?

ad 3: I doubt whether we are on the same line: I am talking about the possibility to change File-type, so f.i. a docfile may be changed to be opend with wordpad stead winword, as it is in WinXP/folder options/filetype.

ad 4. Don't understand why you don't see what I see; so I repeat what I am doing:

1. drag all txt-files from directory X into the fileorganiser.

2. choose directory y to send the txt-files to.

3. press simulate: a nice treestructure appears, like I want it.

4. press apply: get the wanswer "done"

Result: all txtfiles carry the original name, but all have the same content: that of the first txt-file copied. :

We are talking about the same File-Type. And i made an error regarding the *. But still the . needs to be there. Thy can't be removed. And therefor pressing a letter to go the that extension isn't an option.

I Would sugest to use the search function. And then search for .T for example.

3).

O we are on the same line alright. But that feature you are refering about isn't something within PowerTools. If you want to do that use the 'Folder Options' within the Controlpanel.

It would be a nice feature btw to be added to PowerTools :).

4).

Well i have tryed it again. And i still have to disapoint you.

All the files are identical, filename and file-contents.

Also, what version are you using atm?

The current version is v1.5.1.303.

Hello again,

Concerning the handbook as pdf-file has the advantage, that you also can search quickly by a certain expression. So Adobe Reader shows you all possibilities in the hole book and with a click you can go straight on there.

This isn't possible with a htm-file as in PT 1.4.

For the problem with the File Organizer I did now find the problem too.

As long as there are up from 2 files of the same type - so they are placed together in a separate directory - they are like the originals.

But if there are single files, they appear in the new directory with the same size and the dates are changed. Trying to open them I get or an error message as "File corrupted" or they are shown in an "encrypted" way.

I anm using version 303.

Well here it comes ...

JV16 PT 2005 1.5.1.303.

In the root (C:\) I have 4 log-files:

a) docuPrinter.log (2kB)

b) dvdfab_burn.log (11kB)

c) dvdfabexpress_burn.log (17 kB)

d) stub.log (376 kB)

With File Organizer I want to bring them all in a directory "logfiles" at H:\ , thus H:\logfiles.

File Organizer makes indeed such a directory and even a subdirectory _burn.log.

In that subdirectory H:\logfiles\_burn.log it places the files b) and c) mentioned above and in the directory H:\logfiles itself it places the files a) and d) mentioned above.

The size and the content (text) of the files mentioned under b) and c) are O.K. They are the same of the original files b) and c).

However the size and the content of the files a) and d) are not correct.

The size of both files is now in each case 11kB instead of 2 kB for the original file a) and 376 kB for the original file d) :

The content (text) of both files is in each case the content of the file b).

So File Organizer has changed the files a) and d) giving them the content (and size) of the file b)

That is a BUG that has to be corrected in a next update.

Hope you understand my explanation and that the team of JV16 reads it :

I have reported that bug to JV16 by the appropriate way.

Still didn't receive any answer.

Is JV16 aware of that bug? Will he correct it in the next update?

JV Prob has read this post.

But you can't expect him to reply on every post/thread there is.

Also, if you have send a mail, he will read it, or atleast some off his staff.

I was now able to reproduce the bug. It doesn't seem to occur every time with different sets of data, that must the reason why such a bug could have made its way to the release version of the product in the first place.

There should be a fixed version released shortly.

Hi all,

I'm new and I dont' wanna open a new topic for my problem, because it's an old one. If I want to uninstall a software and switched to the "add/remove tab" I can't sort the applications in alphabetical order by pressing the column-tab.

I'm using the latest version 1.5.1306.

Any idea or solutions?

Your question is somehow "hidden" here between other topics :(

Well, if you are speaking about "Registry manager" "Add/Remove"-tab, clicking at the head of the column works fine for me, sorting the apps in alphabetical order from A to Z or when clicking again from Z to A.

I cannot imagine why it does not work for you :
