I was using v1.8.0.468. My usual weekly housekeeping routine after running a VIPRE scan. No other Power Tools operation was conducted. After discovering almost immediately that I could not use the 'New' option in Explorer my concern was whether any other unknown losses had been created in the OS. After surviving an initial panic attack I used the backing tool to restore the previous situation.
I considered whether the registry code which supplied the 'New' service had been corrupted, and was that was Power Tools had removed it. Running equivalent registry cleaners on the restored registry showed very little need for any fixes. Running Power Tools registry clean again showed a multitude of needed fixes; but again after actioning this I had lost the 'New' option.
I then fired off my request for assistance to Macecraft. After waiting a week for an answer (believing my restored computer to have no inherent actual problems), I uninstalled Power Tools and removed all remaining files from the registry except of course my registration.
The new version 1.8.0.472 of Power Tools was installed today. A run of registry clean showed only five items requiring a fix and subsequently the 'New' option was still available in Explorer. I don't know what cleared the problem - the reinstall or the new version.
I'm still using Power Tools but the gloss is wearing thin.
