Shortcut Corruption caused by Registry Cleaner

After running the Registry Cleaner feature in jv16 Power Tools v1.8.0.460 all of the Shortcuts on the System is Corrupted! This feature has worked OK in the past on this Installation ~2 mo. ago, but now all of the Shortcuts have been corrupted and Renamed to .lnk and the Default Execution Item is missing and/or reassigned in the Pop-Up Menu - also other Item Selections may be missing as well. Sometimes a File Type Extension of .lnk has been added to the Files Type Extension List also with no Execute Program Assigned. When the shortcut .lnk is executed it will open the Program Selection Window. All of the Backup Recovery Features in jv16 will not recover the Registry, a Registry Restore or Replace must be preformed in order to recover the OPS. Running the Registry Cleaner Application and selecting all found Registry Errors and clicking the Fix Button causes the Corruption of the Registry. I have Un-installed the latest program installations and jv16 still corrupts the Registry, Registry Compaction works OK!

My System is:

MSI 945P Series Motherboard

Pentium D 3.2ghz Processor

2gb DDR2 Memory

1- 500gb & 1- 750gb Hard Drives

Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 OPS Software fully Updated to Current

What exactly did you do with the PowerTools? If you used the Registry Cleaner feature, with what settings?

Have you tried to restore the backup file created by PowerTools?

I originally installed and registered jv16 Power Tools v1.8.0.457, then upgraded to v1.8.0.460. The software is running with all the default settings as installed. I wanted to clean the Registry and Compact It to make it Speedy,Clean, and Lean during System Maintenance. After running the Registry Cleaner and Compactor, the program had corrupted every Shortcut on the OPS! All of the Shortcut Names had a *.lnk extension added to the Icons Name and the Pop-up Context Menu had the Default Action Item Removed and was Reassigned to a Different Item on the list and would execute this item on Running the Shortcut. Some of the other original action items had been removed as well! I always make backups before System Maintenance and Cleaning the OPS and tried to recover by using the backup created during Registry Cleaner. The Shortcut Corruption remained after this recovery - then I tried Rebooting using the Last Good Configuration with the same Shortcut Corruption Result, but then I realized that Rebooting wouldn't Recover because the Compaction Procedure had previously rebooted the System. I inspected the assigned File Type Extensions Types and found that a .LNK Type had been added to the list without any default program or action assigned. The shortcut links in the Startup Menu and on the Desktop would execute the default assigned item, which was the BullZip MD5 Checker/Creator Program or the Open Item which would display the Prompt Window to Choose a Program to Run. I had a Windows Home Server backup of this drive from the night before, but decided to do a System Restore Point Recovery before the Full System Drive Restore. The System Registry Restore Point Recovery worked OK and put the OPS back to normal. My Summation is that Only the Registry had been Corrupted and the Only thing that could have caused it was the jv16 Registry Cleaner. BTW - I went back and reran the Registry Compactor and then the Registry Cleaner separately and the Cleaner was the Culprit in this case. I haven't tried a Uninstall/Reinstall of jv16 yet to see if this would fix the Corruption Problem, and I say again the programs still have all of the normal installed default settings. - Thanks - - - Shorto :

Please confirm the settings you run the Registry Cleaner with?

Also, could you run the Registry Cleaner again, but this time only save the results to file (Ctrl + S, or File > Save As) and the saved file here? This way I could better analyze the issue.
