Updating cache before running registry cleaner

Is there a way to manually update the cache before running the registry cleaner?

Regsupreme Pro (version 1.7.0.416) on an XP SP3 Home edition

Hello Alicia.

In jv16 PowerTools 2008 there is a way to do it:

Open the main window of the software.

On the menu bar, click on File > Run quick system analysis...

In this way, the software performs the system analysis and updates the cache.

Unfortunately, I do not know if this can be done even on RegSupreme Pro.

There's no dialog in RegSupreme Pro to do that, but here's a way …

Before you start RegSupreme Pro:

1. use windows explorer to delete the FileCache.dat file in the Cache folder

2. use notepad to open the FileCache.dat file in the Settings folder

3. remove the "last asked" date (that is, change LastAsked=some date or other to LastAsked=), and change Created=some date or other to Created=

4. save the file and start RegSupreme Pro -- it should immediately ask if you want to do the cache update

C:\Program Files\RegSupreme Pro\Cache\FileCache.dat is the large file cache to be deleted.

C:\Program Files\RegSupreme Pro\Settings\FileCache.dat is a small file where you remove the dates as mentioned previously.

What do you change?

Make LastAsked=some date or other be LastAsked=

and

make Created=some date or other be Created=

C:\Program Files\RegSupreme Pro\Settings\FileCache.dat should look something like this before you change it:

Okay so I delete the file itself not just contents in C\prog\RegSup pro\cache\filecach.dat

then in I have:

MaxAge=15

Created=39574.6796218519

LastAsked=39574.6795390162

ScreenSnap=False

TransPerCent=0

FlatSBars=False

GridLines=True

c=True

So I change Created=39574.6796218519 to Created=

and LastAsked=39574.6795390162 to LastAsked=

Have I got that right? Will this procedure make the registry cleaner cache ask to be updated every time I open registry cleaner? Or will dates be inserted after one cleaning?

(1) Yes.

(2) No, not automatically. Yes, if you do the whole procedure every time before you start RegSupreme Pro.

(3) Not quite. Applicable dates are inserted when asked and when the cache is built.

Maybe you don't really need to have the cache updated every time. Maybe more often would do it for you.

If you make, for example, MaxAge=0 or MaxAge=1, the program will automatically ask more often about the cache update, but not every time …

Note: the cache update question has nothing to do with opening Registry Cleaner. It happens (or doesn't) when you start RegSupreme Pro.

Tullik you have been very helpful. I was asking about the cache because I wanted to do a cache update before running the registry cleaner after installing SP3.
