registry monitor : doesnt work (no snapshot taken)

wanted to use the compare function, so first took a snapshot.

It processes, i see the progress bar (very slow at start, then alot faster), it reaches 100%, but than its stuck (ive waited for 5 minutes, nothing happens).

So i click on the close window, and i indeed see a snapshot file but its only a few bytes...

...and jv16 uses 300mb ram in task manager...

on xpsp2/1gb ram/amd64

Well, I do have the same problem.

Everything works fine till the Status-Bar is at 100%. Then RAM-use rises up to 100 % of diponibility - 1 GB. After a certain time CPU activity is going back to normal, RAM usage is dropping down slowly to 75 % and stays there for an "eternity" - I left it "work" like that for more than 1 hour.

As there are no many complaints about this, may be this is a problem in our configuration ... but which one?

Every kind help would be welcome!

P.s.: With System Mechanic I'm able to produce a Reg-snapshot without any problem

For the fourth time I returned to the (good) 1.4.1

I have the idea that the 2005 doest not handle memory quite well

Even if Win XP/SP2 is running in "Safe mode" the effect is the same.

lol, I just came to the forum to report the same thing. It takes a very long time to scan the registry (Advanced Registry Tracer takes something like <30 seconds) and then never completes (what I assume is) compiling the snapshot.

But keep in mind that a FULL Snapshot can take a very very long time...

ALso what version are you all using?

The latest version ends on .300

Yes, my version is the most recent one , the 300.

Concerning the time, I did let work for far more than 1 hour, still with a memory use of about 250 MB shown in Windows Task Manager.

For me the same "phenomenone" happens allso with HKEY USERS and CURRENT ROOT.

Hope we could find a reason with your help.

As discussed before, we are aware of the problem and it is being fixed with a separate free update to the product.

I'm currently doing my bachelor of engineering thesis on this subject and the results of this research will be used to improve the Registry Monitor.

I'm expecteting the updated version to be released in Q4 this year.

No problem jepe, I wasn't very clear with my messages about this subject in before.

The current implementation of the Registry Monitor was, I'm afraid, made in haste and therefore it doesn't work the way I want or the way it should work.

By the way, the Advanced Registry Tracer doesn't, at least by default, create a full registry snapshot. It only saves certain types of data (only REG_SZ) and it only analyzes parts of the registry and not the entire registry.

Ah! I can see that other people have problems with this and also I read the answer of jv 16 : does it mean that one has to wait for a next version to see this tool working as it should ? In my case , the snapshot procedure worked reasonably (full snapshot) but the length of the file is 4 KB .is that possible?

What's the difference between full snapashot and a restore point?

Hello,

After update to vers. 307., I can't take a snapshot anymore.

I start with the default settings (KKLM + HKCU) - everything runs well. But on the end the window pops up empty - no snapshot is registrated.

In the previous versionthis was working fine.

Somebody else concerned?

Re-Hello,

I found the reason of the problem - the fault is mine.

Because of an "Error 5" at the update - Automation Tool was active and the install procedure couldn't delete the old "jv16.exe" file, I did a new install in a different folder. Then I took over the old "Settings" and so I got also under "Installion" the old Backup path.
