New JV16 PT 2007 Install Won't Start Under XP

I'm a long-time JV16 PT 2005 user, and tonight I decided to update to PT 2007. I downloaded & installed the new program, but now it won't start! I've tried uninstalling & re-installing several times, but still nothing. I'm running XP. I have uninstalled the old 2005 version from the machine. I have even tried to start PT directly from the .exe in the program files folder, but even that doesn't work. The Windows hourglass blinks on for a couple of seconds, like it's trying to start, then the cursor arrow returns and nothing else happens. Any ideas?? Much obliged . . .

Could you create an empty file called "DebugMode.dat" under the installation directory of the program, then run the program and copy & paste the contents of jv16PT_DebugLog.txt here after you have tried to run the application?

Also, what antivirus product do you use and have you tried to run the program with it disabled?

I created a 0 byte text file named "DebugMode.dat" in the jv 16 Power Tools 2007 folder under Program Files. I then attempted to run the program, and got the same results as before -- nothing happens after about a second or two of the Windows hourglass. Then I checked the jv 16 Power Tools 2007 folder, but there is no debug text file there.

I use McAfee for my virus protection. I disabled it and tried to run PT again, and got the same results as above.

jv16PT_DebugLog.txt is supposed to appear on the Desktop. Since it didn't, it seems jv16pt.exe is having the problem quite early in its execution.

Sometimes (rarely) the program acts funny when it's checking license validity.

… except of course it would refer to PT, not RSP, and you should have a license.xbin file there.

You could try this:

1. Move license.xbin somewhere (offline storage) where the program can't find it.

2. Start PT. If you get some kind of trial period is over pop-up, then you may need to get a fresh license from Macecraft … perhaps it has somehow become corrupt ...

Or perhaps the downloaded installation package is corrupt. You could download a fresh copy and try again.

Thanks once again for your quick response. I removed the license file as you suggested, but the program still did not start. I disabled my McAfee virus protection, and that still didn't help. I then completely uninstalled all traces of JV PT 2007 and downloaded a new file from MaceCraft. I did a complete new install, and the program still will not start (with McAfee disabled). So once again I uninstalled v2007, and and then I reinstalled v2005 from an old install file in my archives. It runs great using the license file issued to me back then. So I guess I'm no worse off than I was a couple of days ago, before I discovered there was a new version of PT available.

I'll try again in a couple of weeks . . .

I am having the same problem as dgmock, except version 2007 had been running, but now it is not. My 2006 version will run. I recently changed to Norton Internet Security 2008 and removed NOD32 and SpySweeper. I tried temporarily disabling Norton but that did not help.

With or without my license file in the program directory, when I click on the program file I get a split second hour glass (running a quad core on 300Mb SATAs).
