Reg Compactor Problem

Hi,

Using ver 1.7.0.413, Reg Compactor, select all, nothing listed, choose compact, results in error 'one or more hives must be selected.'

So far on this XP SP2 Home computer tried closing all tray items & re-run Reg Compactor, same results as above.

Previous releases no problem with Reg Compactor.

Are you running the program as the administrator? Have you tried to disable your antivirus program?

Thank You for responding! Yes i run with admin rights, I'll try closing NOD32 & others. I also the new update did not help.

Just tried turning NOD32 off - no help Next tried booting into safe mode, reg compactor opens blank with nothing to select. Previously reg compactor worked

Hi - I'm having the same problem. Running as local admin....VirusScan disabled. I had same problem w/ v 1.5.??? and now upgraded to 1.7.0.416. I launch Reg Compactor and nothing is displayed in window. I'm assuming it should find my registry and I don't have to point it somewhere but even if I do - I can't find any option that looks like it would do that. All other tools seem to work fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

If someone wants to do this, it might provide a clue:

1. Run Registry Finder with these settings
- a. Search words: CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist
  
  b. Options: check only HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and Analyze key names
  
  c. Ignore words: {Key}
2. The results list should contain about 12 lines; these show the current user registry hives

3. Select all lines and right click-->Export as .reg file …

4. Copy and paste the entire content of the .reg file into this topic

On both my XP Pro and Vista systems, \Device\HarddiskVolumex\ seems to represent the drive (C:\) containing the registry. For example, the Software hive is at C:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE on both systems. On both systems, \Device\HarddiskVolumex\ seems to be defined in the registry only at Key=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup, Name=SystemPartition …

On Rico's system (apparently XP?), \Device\Harddisk0\DP(1)0x7e00-0x1bf36a0800+1\ seems to represent the drive containing the registry.

For some reason, it appears this string doesn't translate properly so that the hives on Rico's system can be located by Macecraft products.

For whatever it might help, if anything, a comparison of the registry data for the hives on my Vista (black), my XP (green), and Rico's system (red) are shown below.

On my machine with XP SP2 I find the same strings as Tullik:

\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\system32\Config\Security or Software or System or Default or SAM

So indeed there's something strange at Rico's PC :?

Hi Guys,

So is Jv16 having problems reading because:

Where "Volume" is missing And my number is '0' instead of '1 or 3?'

Does this have anything to do with, or can it be corrected at XP's "Disk Management?"

Or! Can JV16 have a registry modification to correct this?

Also! Tullik I cannot find a previous ver. or backup where 'reg compact' worked.

But! I keep hand written notes for this machine log like!

On 7/9/07 i updated jv16 1.7.0.398 > 1.7.0.399, AND on 7/18/07 I successfully ran 'Reg Compactor.' My notes show on 9/2/07 'Reg Compactor' does not work.

From notes major events btwn. 7/18 - 9/2/07:

SSDP Discovery Service 'disabled'

Changed Bios boot priority: 1 CD/DVD, 2 HDD, 3 Floppy

D:\ 'system restore' OFF <HDD for long time consists of two partitons C,D

PS When I joined this forum I used IE7 to sign up (user & pass) now when I try & use FireFox with same username & pass, I'm not recognized. And must use IE7. One other forum exhibits this behavior. Any Ideas?

PS - Tried starting SSDP service - no change to Reg Comactor. Also downloaded & ran with success ERUNT's 'ntregopt.exe' reclaimed 5%.
