Unresolved File Wiping Problems remain in v413

With the release of version 1.7.0.413 I again tested the wiping function with results as below:

File Wiping:

Start jv16

Set file wiping to 1 x zeros & 1 x random

Start file tool

Added 10 files each 50 KB

Directory Wiping:

Start jv16

Set file wiping to 1 x zeros & 1 x random

Start directory tool

Added directory containing 200 files with total of 50 MB

Wiped files which took 03

Set file wiping to 1 x zeros & 0 x random

Repeated above & time reduced to 03

All files & root diretory deleted

At the above rates it would take me over 4 days to wipe an 80 GB drive?

The file wiping function would seem to be far from ready and as this is a security feature I feel this should not be included in jv16 until confirmed as working properly. I would not like to think I had wiped my bank details only to find they are still there. :(

File tool - wiping bugs

Scenario:

1. Copied a directory called "Anders båt" to the Desktop

2. Contents 27 files (photographs), 13.6 MB total size -- left an explorer window open on the directory

3. Wipe settings = 1 times ones and zeros, 2 times random data

4. Dragged & dropped the directory to the File Tool

5. Selected & wiped the smallest file (Thumbs.db, 262 KB) to get a starting time

6. Selected All, then More Functions-->Wipe -- it wiped and removed only about half the files from the list and from the directory

7. Repeated More Functions-->Wipe until all files were gone (3 repeats)

8. Results message has a bug:
- : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
9. Elapsed time ~ 124 seconds(.11 MB/sec.) - did no backups

Repeated above steps with:

* Wipe settings = 5 times ones and zeros, 5 times random data

* Elapsed time ~ 326 seconds (.044 MB/sec.) - did no backups
- : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).

2. Contents: 437 files (photographs), 23 folders, 181.1 MB total size -- left an explorer window open on the directory

3. Wipe settings = 1 times ones and zeros, 2 times random data

4. Dragged & dropped the Camera directory and the empty "Anders båt" directory to the Directory Tool

5. Selected & wiped "Anders båt" to get a starting time

6. Selected Camera, then More Functions-->Wipe

7. Results message has a bug:
- : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
8. Elapsed time ~ 432 seconds (.419 MB/sec.) - did no backups

Scenario 2:

1. Copied a directory called "Camera" to the Desktop

2. Dragged & dropped the contents of the Desktop "Camera" to the Directory Tool.

3. Contents: 434 files (photographs), 15 folders, 8 subfolders, 179 MB total size -- left an explorer window open on the directory

4. Wipe settings = 1 times ones and zeros, 2 times random data

5. Dragged & dropped an empty directory to the Directory Tool

6. Selected & wiped the empty directory to get a starting time

7. Selected all, then More Functions-->Wipe

8. Elapsed time ~ 338 seconds (.530 MB/sec.) - did no backups
- : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).

Scenario 3:

1. Repeated Scenario 1 with wipe settings = 10 times ones and zeros, 10 times random data

2. Elapsed time ~ 1305 seconds (.139 MB/sec.) - did no backups
- : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).
  
  : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 files and 0 directories).

During each of the long wipe operations, the Directory Tool would not respond to clicks (for example, when trying to show the main window). Explorer and Task Manager windows showed the tool was still operating. When the last "All done!" message appeared in the message box, the DT window was again responsive.

Extrapolating to an 80 GB wipe:

* Scenario 1 would take 190,930 seconds (2.21 days)

* Scenario 2 would take 150,943 seconds (1.75 days)

* Scenario 3 would take 575,539 seconds (6.66 days)
