Age commenting

Hello,

Awhile back I posted a question about the age commenting feature that wasn't working the way I think it should work. I didn't get much response leading me to think that other people either aren't having this problem or think that it is trivial and doesn't merit any attention.

To re-cap what I posted earlier, the problem is that several programs that have been previously marked as old are showing up as new once again and have to be re marked. I use this feature to quickly locate programs that I have recently installed to be able to un-install the entries easily without having to search. This seems to occur mainly with the registry cleaner.

Does anyone else have this problem and what is everyones thoughts on this?

P.S. I just downloaded the latest version (1.7.0.413) and it is still exhibiting the same behavior.

Edit: What I meant to say is that this occurs in the software manager and the registry manager, not the registry cleaner.

similar problem in registry cleaner: option 'never show' never works.

ok, works - in 10% of cases after 20 times repeating.

regarding the software telling me that applications I have on my system were installed yesterday ! That is not really helpful to me either and it must be a bug that needs to be eradicated.

There are possibly other problems with the Age/Comment features.

However, until someone provides some specific clues, I suspect jv16 will spend his time on more pressing issues. :

Going a bit off topic here but i'm sure I saw Age/Comment features in a beta version of RegSupremePro. Now the final is out it seems to have disappeared.

Is my mind playing tricks or am I missing something?

To turn on the Age/Comment features in RSPro, you must manually edit AgeComment.dat in the Settings folder. 8)

The only possible clue I can give is that it seems to happen when up-dating to a newer version.

I believe lists in the Startup Manager and Registry Manager should be consistent. If so, the Age/Comment System should not show changes unless the registry (or Start menu\Startup) has actually changed.

The Software Manager is another story. The names it shows are constructed by analysis and I have seen them vary when unrelated changes (application removals and additions, using installers or not) have occurred. The quote below explains why:

The Software Manager uses two approaches at the same time: it reads the same internal software list

used by the Add/Remove Software feature, but it also quickly analyzes the registry and hard drives

to detect other installed software. This is why it shows many more items than the Add/Remove

Software, or some other similar third-party applications.

Please note that Software Manager works based on approximations. This means the list can contain

some number of errors: for example, the software's Main Executable information or the Installation

Date might not show the correct data on all software. This is normal. Also, it's not always possible

for Software Manager to detect all information for the software, in such case “N/A” is shown.

If a different name is constructed for the same software item, it looks like a new item to the Age/Comment System. This may account for what you have reported ...?

Reading what you posted from the handbook, it sounds like that's what's happening. Although I read the handbook quite awhile ago, I didn't remember reading this.
