File wipe â€“ Does it actually do anything?

jv16 PowerTools 2007 1.7.0.411 on Vista

If I go from the opening screen to:

File/Settings/File wiping

Overwrite the files before removing:

times with ones and zeros

times with random data

It makes no difference what they are set to, if you set them both to 999 or 1 it takes exactly the same time to wipe the files.

When using folder wipe the starting folder name remains after the wipe is complete.

It is also a bit strange to be asked if I want to make a backup of a file I am wiping.

I have commented on this before re an earlier version of jv16 but got no response and the problem remains in the latest version. :(

You are correct, there indeed is a bug: the defined number of overwrites defined in the Settings window is not used but the wipes are always performed with the default settings of 3 overwrites.

You are asked about backuping the file because all PT's features does that. But, if you create a backup of a file that you wipe, PT saves this data to the backup file and when you remove the backup it is deleted with wiping.

Could you explain what do you mean by "When using folder wipe the starting folder name remains after the wipe is complete."?
