Problem when running JV2007 and Vista + Norton IS

I'm running JV 2007 v1.7.0.405, Vista Home Premium and Norton Internet Security 2007. When running registry cleaner, it takes a long long time. When I'm finally able to try to fix the registry problems, I'll get these kind of error messages:

: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\CCPD\SuiteOwners\{0D7956A2-5A08-4ec2-A72C-DF8495A66016} : ParentPlugin"! Windows core returned the following error: "Access is denied."

: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\InstalledApps : Internet Security Data"! Windows core returned the following error: "Access is denied."

: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\InstalledApps : Norton Internet Security Data"! Windows core returned the following error: "Access is denied."

: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\SymSetup\Internet Security : ShortcutPath"! Windows core returned the following error: "Access is denied."

: All done! 1 registry errors fixed, 84 invalid registry keys and 25 registry entries removed (31 KB of invalid data in total).

Is there something wrong with this version of JV2007 or is this more Norton IS problem? I'm logged in as administrator and UAC is disabled.

I am almost certain it's a NIS problem.

When running jv16 PT 2007 it's better to disable anti-virus programs.

Even when they are disabled (not running in the background), most of those programs don't let jv16 PT access their entries in the registry, so they can't be removed.

You could add "Symantec" to the "Ignore words" tab of Registry Cleaner, so jv16 PT will no longer search for Symantec entries.

I've had Symantec keys that wouldn't delete even years after uninstalling the product (I haven't had anything Symantec installed on any of my systems for years, but their leftovers are hard to get rid of), so it may be that the Symantec program itself isn't protecting the keys, but the permissions set on the keys is preventing you from doing anything.

You could try changing the permissions of one of those keys and see if you can then delete it. I'd start with the one that has the "Shortcut" in it because that definitely won't hurt anything.

I suspect that you have NIS's self protection activated which is preventing jv16 from deleting NIS's registry keys. I recommend that you do not let jv16 delete NIS's registry keys. I never do myself because I've found that it negatively affects NIS...NIS becomes inactive.

I always keep NIS's self protection active specifically to prevent jv16 (and a couple of other registry cleaners I have on my system) from removing NIS keys. I also have "Norton" and "Symantec" excluded in jv16.

The only time I let jv16 remove any of the said keys is if I want to totally remove NIS from the system....for example, on major update/upgrade to a new version.
