I think this case needs more info. Like which Windows version, which Virus scanner, etc . . . anything that could cause a delay.

jv16 starts up pretty fast on my system . . . about 2 sec from dbl-clk to the main screen. Is that slow?

I am using 405 and until today was seeing the 'finds' I would expect.

Today 405 is not finding anything apart from MRU/History Data.

I mean zero - nothing at all. I have closed and restarted it several times.

I know there are entries there because I ran it without cleaning yesterday.

It runs Very, Very fast and then reports zero errors.

Win XP Pro, AMD 64 3500+ , 1GB ram, SATA drive.

As mentioned in my my previous postings re the the testbed PC....

..its config is:

(1). Dell Core 2 Duo 2GB Ram (standalone, purposely not networked)

(2). Win XP SP2 "vanilla" install.

(3). Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Ed 10.1.6.6000 (NOT Norton AntiVirus).

No other "security" software installed.

(4). The testbed was generated by installing about > 40 applications into a new Win XP SP2 install.

(5). No other application or software active during testing (except for the OS), even SAV CE turned off during testing....

(6). All errors present are Only due to the software installations (ie No "canned" registry errors purposely generated & or introduced).

OK, this doesn't seem right. But, just to be sure this doesn't have anything to do with your computer and all to do wth our product, could you do a few test runs on another computer with the RegSupreme Pro 1.7 RC1?

Will restore a production image to another PC, & will run some tests again....

The startup (i.e. the time from double clicking the file to the window showing up) should take about 1 second on a computer with over 1 GHz cpu.

The program is doing lots of things at startup, for example detecting all the settings, searching for a license file, translating the program to the language of your choice etc.

I'll try to find something to fix.

I am aware that it's doing a bit of work when starting up...

..But it would be preferable to show the startup screen Before completing this work.....

Even Norton products show their initial screen faster... LOL

Btw, the initial screen of RegSupreme Pro 1.7 RC1 comes up Much faster than that for PT 2007....

..is PT 2007 doing that Much More work on startup than RegSupreme 1.7 RC1?.......

The startup screen for RegSupreme 1.7 RC1 comes up immediately after its icon is double clicked.....

Well, I turned off User Access Control (required restart).

That got back .5 seconds on a Quick Start click, plus the two seconds previously lost to the UAC dialogue.

In other words, it takes 2 to 3 seconds. With 2 gigabytes of memory, you shouldn't be seeing five plus seconds.

This is good news, both programs share the same code base, RSPro RC1 is only more latest vesion at the moment. I did some improvements to the startup based on your reports and it looks like they worked!

Stay tuned for updated jv16 PowerTools, it should be out after RSPro RC2.

Possibly RSPro does much less initialization involving the file system than does PT2007 ... ?

Roberta, I have found a new bug that causes the number of results vary between each scans. The same bug is present in both the PT and the RSPro RC1.

This bug will be fixed in RSPro RC2, so could you check it out when it is released? (Should be within a day or two)

Gladly these bugs are not very serious, the problem is caused by duplicate items on the Registry Cleaner's list. There are many checks which have been designed to not allow duplicate items show on the list but still they do, now I have found a way to reproduce the problem and also fixed it.

If the problem still exists, please, start the program in debug mode. To do this, create an empty file called "DebugMode.dat" to the installation directory of the program, so by default to C:\Program files\RegSupreme Pro\. You can create the file with any text editor, like Notepad.

Then, when you run the Registry Cleaner in the default mode (structured list mode) you'll see a debug button at the top left corner of the results window with the caption of "verify results". Click it after the scan has completed.

The v.1.7.0.408 main window appears in about 1.5 seconds on my Vista system with User Access Control turned off. It's the same in v.1.7.0.407.

That's really fast enough ...

Regarding comments about making registry cleaner too safe, I don't know if there really is such a thing as "too safe". If the registry gets trashed, Windows may not start up again. After I used registry cleaner in the 2006 version Windows would never get to a login screen. I had rather the product miss a few registry problems than have it remove too much so that Windows fails to start. BTW, I just checked for updates and it says I am current with 1.7.0.405, but I saw mention in this thread of a version 1.7.0.408. Is that just a beta test version at this point?

1.7.0.407 (RC1) and 1.7.0.408 (RC2) are beta test versions of the forthcoming RegSupreme Pro.

When the new RegSupreme Pro is released, its Registry Cleaner engine will carry into the next jv16 PowerTools release.
