More too many paths ...
Is there a good reason in Vista for the directory structures shown in the screenshots (below)?
In any case, is there a good reason for us routinely to see the apparently redundant information in Power Tools searches? Each unique nested structure appears to point to the same endpoint (file or subdirectory).
Perhaps it would be useful to add a different checkbox to the Options tab in File Finder and Directory Finder -- something like this:Exclude redundant directory structure items from results list (Recommended for most Vista searches)
It seems in the Directory Finder screenshot example, just showing C:\Users\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\jv16PT_2007 would be sufficient for most purposes ...
Incidentally, these counts are interesting:Windows Explorer properties shows 12886 directories in the Vista partition
Windows Explorer properties shows 7422 directories in the XP Pro partition
I believe the difference is for the most part due to the alternate boot to "The prior Windows version" (which doesn't work -- good thing I made a copy to another hard disk before the upgrade) :)
Directory Finder goes through almost 45000 directories in the Vista partition
Directory Finder goes through almost 7500 directories in the XP Pro partition
A Directory Finder search word of *\Users\* got 15080 hits (I need another gig of memory) :
7933 of these "belonged" to user=Owner (it's a single user system)
