File Find & ... Does Not Work

Hi Just installed JV16 w/license and went to use File Finder and although I can input search criteria, the Start Button is grayed out.

Also Directory Finder is the same,,"no Start" Button

I have NOT gone through all the applets yet but certainly the two above do not work Why Not ?

In both those tools, you have to provide at least one search word in the "... to find" tab and at least one directory in the "Search in" tab.

Hi I did this:

Checked Look only for the following files

put in *.psd

Start did not get black.. I tried other finder applets.. same thing For Example Duplicate File Finder.. *.gif

Still no black

Duplicate File Finder also has a "Search in" tab. Just type a directory name in the tab window, or browse using the "Add" button in the lower right corner.

I thought by default it searched "my computer"

It works when I tell it specifically where to search. :-)

I assume if I want to search all my partitions I list them individually one under another ?

Yes, for example, like this:

C:\

D:\

G:\

I:\

M:\

N:\

O:\

P:\

Z:\

Z:\ is the drive in my laptop, mounted on a wireless network.

You can save named setting preferences (per tool) so you don't have to type it all each time. Look at the "Preference saving" tab in the Settings tool.

BTW, multiple full partition searches are usually not advisable (except with Directory Finder) -- File Finder and Duplicate File Finder can take a long, long time to do that.

Also, before you remove anything with Duplicate File Finder, read the manual carefully. It is generally not safe to remove a file just because it is a duplicate.
