I do not understand the following : One Click Cleaner seems very efficient and simplicity is OK ; However , why is it impossible to CHECK items you want really to be deleted AFTER the scan ? Why , in the restore tool is it not possible to restore a single file if deleted mistakenly ?

I strongly suggest that additional features are added to this tool : selecting items to delete and restoring selected items if mistakenly deleted . OLIVIER GEBUHRER

The idea of the One Click Cleaner is that you don't check what items you wish to remove after the scan, you only configure it once and then let it run. I'm not 100% sure, but it should be possible to restore for example individual files after running the One Click Cleaner from the Backup Tool > Custom Restore.

I ran the One Click Cleaner with these settings:

* List all files from the computer's temp directories

But only files which have not been accessed in the last 5 Days

* Unused shared DLL/OCX files

It puts the backups under the "Other backups" tab. Unfortunately, there, the context menu does not have the "Custom restore/edit backup" option for "Data removed with the One Click Cleaner" type (TypeCode=114).

So, jv, if you add that option there, or move the type to the "File backups" tab, it should be quite easy to restore individual files.

Otherwise, we must:

1. Restore everything, or

2. For individual files, manually analyze Files.dat and copy and paste using multiple Windows explorer windows ...

One Click Cleaner bug

Implementation of the Settings-->Preference saving tab -->"Automatically remember the last settings" option is missing or incorrect.

Workaround

Save your settings in a named preference. In subsequent runs, load the named preference before starting the tool.

This tool will be an easier to use alternative for many Automation Tool tasks.

One Click Cleaner bugs (?)

1. When a directory specified in the "Empty directories" tab contains only empty directories, the removals are not counted and not backed up.

2. C:\Temp is in the "Empty directories" tab. The structure/contents is:

C:\Temp\a

C:\Temp\a\b (empty)

C:\Temp\a\c (empty)

C:\Temp\a\d\e\New Text Document.txt (less than 100 bytes)

Nothing is removed or counted, but the file is backed up.

3. If the structure is completely empty, all the subdirectories are removed but not counted and there is no backup ... Oops -- that's the same as 1 above. :

4. If C:\Temp is in the "Empty directories" tab and in the "Flush directories" tab, the entire structure is removed.

The file is counted and backed up. The empty directories are neither counted or backed up.

5. I put C:\Windows\Temp in the "Empty directories" tab and in the "Flush directories" tab, then ran the tool twice.

The first time, results were normal (there were four files that failed to remove (in use probably)).

The second time, there were the same messages plus : Failed to backup "C:\WINDOWS\Temp"!

Why?

I realize the directory is read only, but why is the tool attempting removal?

Tullik is right ; there is no option to delete only files you check ; this might be dangerous ; I have not fiully understood the answer related to restore options but I made the "same" settings and there was no way to restore individual files .OLIVIER GEBUHRER

Added "Clear all MRU items ..." to the OCC parameters. It worked fine, but there is a similar situation with backup. Now files and registry entries are mixed in the same backup subdirectory in the "Other backups" tab. Now we need (in the unlikely event we need to do a partial restore) both a custom file restore and a custom registry entry restore in the context menu.

So jv, unless you split the backup to different tabs, or change the context menu, one workaround is:

Don't clear MRU history with the One Click Cleaner

Instead, use the History/MRU Cleaner

If one does clear MRU history using OCC, a workaround is:

1. Restore everything in entries.reg, or

2. For individual entries, manually edit a copy of entries.reg, then merge the result into the registry. ...
