3) Choose the most recent entry (description) in the list there (click on it once, so it's selected)
It appears that the Entries.reg file is not a binary file as I can view the entries with notepad or vim.
So it looks like I am out of luck for restoring this file. How can I get back to a previous registry state?
Part of the description I left out is that when I get to step #3 above, there are no files or entries listed under the Registry tab or the other tabs also. I get an empty table with the header "Description, Type. Size, ID, Created, etc.... I tried chaning the the backup directory under tools/settings/installation from:
C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2006\Backups
to
C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2006\Backups\0014AF
and that did not help. I did discover through command line browsing that the Entries.reg file in the above directory has no header in it. I copied a header from another computer and placed it at the top of the file. The header looks like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
; File created by TBackupTool
; Component version: 1.4
; Component used by: jv16 PowerTools 2006
; Program version: 1.5.2.350
; File Description: highlevel_regerros
; Date: 21.12.2006
; Time: 23
With this header jv16 still does not see the file but at least I can now right click on the file with the windows file viewer and merge it back into the registry without any problem, but without the header windows does not like it. My system is back to normal
I do not understand why the Backup tool doesn't recognize any files under the backup directory.
