stavkirke Hello, Have just tried to merge 36 Word doc files. The file I get is around 6 MB large - the same size as all the files combined. However, it only shows two pages (that is, one of the docs). Have searched these forums, but found nothing on this topic. Any comments or help gratefully received. Regards, Stavkirke
redseujac I'm not sure, but it's possible the "merge" option in the File Tool handles only ASCII text files (such as .txt or .html files) correctly :? Compare "Find and replace", p. 58 English Handbook.
stavkirke Hello Redseujac, You could be right. I have another find and replace tool that gives the same warning. I tried merging the files manually (there were 42 not 36). Got to the very last one and then Word crashed. Tried a free download - had to buy for full functionality (I don't buy unless I know it's going to work!). Another shareware application proved only able to merge files that had been previously split. Then tried a demo of an expensive tool. It choked on certain files, but I managed to overcome this. Not a good day. I couldn't get JV 16 to work with even just two files. Still, it's the first time I've ever needed the function and it's certainly not what I bought JV 16 for (great tool, wouldn't be without it). Best regards, Stavkirke
jv16 Sorry, we encountered an error while displaying this content. If you're a user, please try again later. If you're an administrator, take a look in your Flarum log files for more information.
stavkirke Thanks for the reply, which I believe is correct. I now have a macro to concatenate/join/merge Word docs. A pity the problem exists. As the info is definitely there (but invisible), I may try some "simple and dirty" tricks on the file produced by JV 16. Best regards, Stavkirke
blackdex You can also try to open the file with OpenOffice. Mabye it can read the whole file. If so, it is just an MS Word problem :).
