http://www.swreg.org (aka http://usd.swreg.org/ ) is apparently a real company doing payment transfers for online purchases. Per a DNS lookup, their IP address is 209.87.181.121 (an access point in Minnesota).

So to whom or where do they transfer the money received for the pirated products? ...

Swreg.org is a subsidiary of Digital River, Inc. ( http://www.digitalriver.com ), apparently located in Minnesota. It appears to be a legitimate e-commerce business.

Perhaps they could help identify the culprits, or at least cut off transfers of the illicit gains.

A google search for "Brainlab Software" yielded about 3460 hits. I went though the first ~40 and found pirated software on these sites (as well as some sites already listed by jv):

There were a few legitimate medical and university hits in the part of the google list I examined, but most pointed to pirated items.

A support contact was listed in some of the pages. A search on that gmail address yielded this site, which may provide clues to the thief's identity.

Is there any way to get Interpol or the American FBI or ... involved? Surely this must be illegal somewhere ...

I also found a list of the crook's "products" in the usd.swreg.org's online software store -- it's at http://usd.swreg.org/soft_shop/45085/

I'm going to hang this up for a long while. Any volunteers to go through the 3000+ Brainlab Software hits remaining? :

Yes, I already contacted them. They need me to file a DMCA complaint before they can do anything, I will be doing it later today. That should pretty much stop their credit card transactions.

The legitimate developers for products listed on the pirate's sites are (or appear to be):

* BadCopy Pro -- Justsoft

* DVDIdle Pro -- Fengtao Software Inc.

* Registry Mechanic -- PC Tools

* ASCII Art Studio -- Torch Soft

* Mass Mail Tools Expert Edition -- there are too many products for me to identify an owner -- this type product is just barely ethical anyway ... IMHO -- can you say S P A M

* Delphi and C++Builder Decompiler -- there are too many products for me to identify an owner

* jv16 Power Tools 2006 and System Accelerate Expert Edition and Windows Optimizer Platinum and Registry Wizard -- Macecraft Software -- what an honor -- he/they converted Power Tools into four separate products :

Perhaps you can (may have already?) tell these developers they are probably victims of pirates doing business as Softlab Software and Brainlab Software ...

NB: I noticed other products attributed to Softlab and Brainlab while doing this search. I don't identify them because there is no explicit reference to the other products in the sites known to belong to the pirate(s).

Also note that the culprits may be reading this thread -- a directory on one of their probable sites is now hidden ...

I have now sent a report about this matter to all these software developers. I'll report back here if some of them reply with anything interesting.

brainlab.serverheaven.net

ashampoo.serverheaven.net

Is there more of these?

Just let me know and I'll download them all to my computer to store them as evidence. I'll contact serverheaven.net service provider soon and ask them to remove these websites.

A search for "serverheaven.net" had 20,400 hits. In the first 100, 99 were not applicable and 1 was just a downoad site, not a pirate site.

http://www.serverheaven.net "owns" the second level domain and provides free hosting services withs ads.

Since there are no ads on the pirate sites, serverheaven.net has probably received a payment for their hosting services. Therefore, they may know a name or other ID which would tie the two sites together, and possibly indicate others. It's worth including in your request.
