MRU Removal and PowerTools

I think the reason users are not seeing as many invalid registry entires being found in jv16 PowerTools 2005' RegCleaner is that the History/MRU Cleaner is where you need to remove some stuff now. I feel better seeing the MRU registry items in the RegCleaner's scan list though. It's nice to see what you are removing and the path(s) that the invalid registry entries are removing.

Look in the "Windows Open/Save dialog" area of the History/MRU Cleaner in jv16 PowerTools 2005. I have many of these that the RegCleaner is not finding. Maybe an option to turn off this History/MRU of Windows Open/Save dialog so we can view these in the RegCleaner (and not forget to remove them.) I also am not seeing the MUI Cache and WinZip stuff items being found by PowerTools 2005 because the History/MRU Cleaner finds them. So the new user to PowerTools 2005 might benefit with being able to turn off these here and let the RegCleaner find them instead.

Are you sure you don't have "Don't show items that would be automatically re-created" option enabled in the Registry Cleaner?

The jv16 PowerTools 2005's registry cleaner contains a feature called "MRU Scan" (you can enable/disable this from the scan options). It's a generic MRU cleaner, i.e. it doesn't just remove non-working file paths but automatically detects MRU items and removes them.

The History/MRU cleaner on the other hand is a non-generic tool, it contains a pre-defined list of applications and information what kind of data they add to the registry.

In other words, the Registry Cleaner does analyze MRU items if you don't disable it. The jv16 PT 1.4.1's Registry Cleaner didn't have an MRU scanning feature at all. (Of course, it did detect MRU items with invalid file paths).

By the way, to test the power of PT 2005's MRU Scan do the following:

Open the product's Registry Cleaner, uncheck all scan options (hit Ctrl+N) and only select the MRU Scan.

Click Start and wait for it to work.

On my personal computer, the generic MRU scanner finds over 40 items.
