All previous updates have incorporated my settings. The setting is Normal, not Aggressive so I 'assumed' that was the selection. I did not actually look to see if that was the setting.
The backup setting is to always prompt. The dialogue appears at which point I type the name. This time the dialogue did not appear with the jv16 file name that I always change to identify the reason for running reg cleaner. Fix immediately began after clicking select all and then clicking fix.
After fix completed, I closed the program. Later I opened settings and found that my settings were shown correctly, as originally set and continued when updating the previous versions.
I must admit that I am so confident with jv16 and updates that I ran reg cleaner without reading or really noticing the settings shown in the dialogues. Performance has never varied, I know what to click and when to click and type the backup name.... jv16 has given no reason to be wary.
I did not think to look for the backup before restoring the partition image. My focus was on OS misbehavior after running reg cleaner.
