deleted folders!

i downloaded jv16 PowerTools 1.4 trial version and used the registry cleaner to tidy up some entries from old removed programs... worked a charm. fine.

then i ran the file cleaner which found 6 or 7 broken shortcuts which i opted to remove too.. but when i closed PowerTools, i saw that my desktop was empty of everything except My Documents, the recycle bin and my computer..

most notably missing was a folder of work of mine which has apparently been completely removed.

is there any way of recoving this folder? or at least some of the files from it? i've looked in the backups section and all it lists are the registry entries and the few files i removed using the file cleaner..

i have no idea why the other files have gone :

The Registry Cleaner doesn't remove any files nor folders, ever, it only analyzes registry entries.

Are you positive you didn't remove the folder by using the File Cleaner?

Removing a folder with a File Cleaner seems rather strange since it only analyzes files. Are you sure you didn't use any other tools of the PT 1.4.1 or any other 3rd party product?

^ that's what i thought.. which is why i cant understand where it's gone.

i ran the file cleaner (deleted about 7 entries), the start menu cleaner (nothing) and the dll cleaner (nothing) .. and the directory tool to find empty folders (but i didnt remove anything from here)

and yet, everything on the desktop has gone. and i have no idea how to get it back (if it's even possible)

You may want to try a system restore?

I don't know about getting your folders back, but it should bring back all your icons. And you could try using a tool such as "bringdataback" or "recover my files" I have used them both to fix computers where critical files had been corrupted/deleted
