I've used it once. It is somewhat of a bludgeon ... works OK, I guess. Don't know a whole lot about it.

I would rather have PT RC improve in the MRU area since it already has integrated backup, pretty good "ignore" features, and the easy regedit jump if one wants to examine details before acting. It would be even nicer if RC (and RF) had a "Remove from list" feature to simply considerably the analysis of large lists ... just a simple variation of the "Never show again" feature? I suppose that should be a feature request ...

But the topic is "History/MRU Cleaner." I think we agree that tool is not needed if the RC MRU scan were sufficiently improved. :)

There's a big difference how the Registry Cleaner's MRU cleaner works and the MRU/History Cleaner works. The Registry Cleaner contains a generic MRU cleaner. In other words, it doesn't have any pre-defined data of which is searches for. And the MRU/History Cleaner works by pre-defined set of data which determines which programs' MRU items it knows how to clear.

But you are correct, the list of MRU/History Cleaner's applications isn't very good at the moment.

I have both PT 2005 and PT 2006 installed at the same time. They share the same settings directory.

The PT 2005 History/MRU Cleaner results window looks like this: . . . . . . . . . The PT 2006 History/MRU Cleaner results window looks like this:

Note the BSPlayer item in each product's window. I had changed the BSPlayer.dat file --- added a "yyy" prefix to the name.

The BSPlayer item and the significant differences in the windows shows that PT 2005 does not use the information in the History Cleaner folder while PT 2006 does. In fact PT 2005 shows the same result if I move the folder to my desktop -- PT 2006 then shows only the five category headings.

Conclusion: PT 2005 did the MRU find function with logic/information within the program. PT 2006 mainly or entirely uses the scripts within the History Cleaner folder.

Might work -- if a bit got flipped (corrupted) in the program constant PT uses to find the "History Cleaner" folder, that would explain completely the symptoms you noticed ... unlikely (?) -- but maybe ...

You could also download a fresh copy of 338 -- only takes a minute with a fast connection.

I erassed everything, both folders, cleaned with RS, CC and etc... :

Tryed a brand new copy of 338 and closed my eyes... : ...

And my MRU/History cleaner works fine now. but my license.xbin was gone, well I found my old email from jv16 and there it was.

Using pre-release version -- PT 2006 1.5.2.340, some History/MRU Cleaner problems are (will be) fixed -- and some not:

(*) History/MRU Cleaner -- this tool is almost non-functional

SubKeys=True now works for an HKEY\ ...\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU key.

(N) History/MRU Cleaner -- incorrectly removes a list value -- PT 2006 v.1.5.2.338

(N) History/MRU Cleaner -- count too large by 1 if ListingValue=MRUList -- PT 2006 v.1.5.2.338

The program still counts the MRUList entry name and removes its index string value (such as cdefabg) without backing it up. As a result, History/MRU Cleaner then shows an incorrect answer (zero) in its window after the Backup Tool restore.

I read your threads and I have to agree. MRU list counting is wrong,

I removed all RUN MRU lists, typed "one" new and PT tells me there are "two"!! I'm Just testing, but still..It ain't right! :

Well, we just have to wait for the new release. 8) 8)

I spent a bit too much time trying to solve the Software Manager's blank page bug so I forgot to fix these two, but they are now fixed. Thank you for reporting. The next released version will contain the fixes.
