Disk Wiper -- full wipe experiences
Once during use and on every reboot, BIOS put out error messages: "Disk failure imminent ..." and "S.M.A.R.T. status bad ..." The failure was evidently a soft one since everything could still be seen with win explorer and with PT. HP chat support agreed the hard drive should be replaced (still under warranty), so I decide to give the third Disk Wiper option a shot...

The device (Internal SATA hard disk...NTFS) contained two partitions: K:\ and D:\.
K:\ was essentially empty.
D:\ was an bootable emergency copy of the boot volume (a point-in-time copy, not mirrored).
I had a win explorer window open on the disk devices and a task manager window open on the performance tab.

I decided to do K:\ first.
Initial properties: 115 GB free, 68.2 MB used (in Recycler and System Volume Information)
-- started DW (option 3, full wipe)
-- ~ 6 minutes -- "Delayed write failed" appeared from windows in a balloon pop up -- K:\ and D:\ disappeared from the win explorer window ... DW continued to run
-- 18 minutes 55000 GB written @ 50 GB/sec, 24 files wiped (per DW window)
-- 33 minutes 110000 GB written @ 55 GB/sec, 24 files wiped (per DW window)
-- status bar went from 75% to 0% & back every minute or so
-- 58 minutes 21500 GB written @ 58 GB/sec, 24 files wiped (per DW window)
-- since the DW window info was obvious nonsense, and it was probably looping, I clicked the Abort button
-- the DW window closed and PT was not using any significant CPU
-- closed PT -- explorer still did not show D:\ or K:\
-- rebooted -- the BIOS messages did not happen : -- explorer showed D:\ and K:\
-- K:\ contained System Volume Information and a file jv16_pt00855CCE.dat (780,287 KB)
-- ending properties: 115 GB free, 761 MB used.
-- deleted the file and it went into Recycler (which now showed in explorer).
-- END
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
D:\ was next.
Initial properties: 91.2 GB free, 25.7 GB used (87,767 files, 7229 folders)
-- started DW (option 2, data only wipe)
-- 40 minutes 832 MB written @ 34 MB/sec, 2058 files wiped (per DW window)
-- 61 minutes 861 MB written @ 23 MB/sec, 2709 files wiped (per DW window)
-- taking forever, so I clicked Abort -- DW window disappeared, but PT continued to use up to 75% of the CPU.
-- let it run, went to sleep
-- 13 hours 18 minutes -- PT still used CPU -- closed PT
-- told win explorer to delete all with no recycler
-- END
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
D:\ continued.
Initial properties: did not record (explorer only showed Recycler and System Volume Information)
-- started DW (option 3, full wipe)
-- 7 minutes 1.4 GB written @ 3.5 MB/sec, 469 files wiped (per DW window) -- files are probably in restore points in SVI
-- 35 minutes 4.4 GB written @ 2.1 MB/sec, 2605 files wiped (per DW window)
-- 60 minutes 7.86 GB written @ 2.22 MB/sec, 4428 files wiped (per DW window)
-- 5 hours 9 minutes 28.6 GB written @ 1.58 MB/sec, 25739 files wiped (per DW window)
-- Progress indicator had dropped from 30% to 3%
-- different nonsense and taking forever -- clicked Abort -- DW window disappeared but PT did not continue to use CPU
-- File Finder showed 7722 files still on D:\
-- END

Conclusion: does not yet work as one might reasonably expect ...
