Thanks for the tip and I am on planning to read the book but I just wanted to start off knowing the basic setting so that I can use the program , Thanks
For an example, File Cleaner has a "Files to find" option "Unneeded files" with a "Quick select" of "Safe mode." This causes the tool to look in the drives checked in the "Options" tab for files satisfying these search words: *.tmp; *.temp; *.gid; *.chk; *.~*;
The *.chk files are usually file fragments "recovered" by chkdsk (filename=file???.chk). However, on my computer, there are a few files belonging to Firefox, Thunderbird, and windows download with this extension. Since I don't know their purpose, I don't remove them. I add the file names in the "Ignore words" tab and save the preference which I named "Default."
On your system, there may be other files on the list that you may not know are safe to remove. So you may want to put their names in your ignore list so they will not show in future File Cleaner runs.
