prsobel wroteThe following error description is provided by .338 with high severity:
"File or directory "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh " does not exist"
The file clearly exists where the error description says it does not.
If the "error" is fixed, that is, removed the notebook's mousepad ceases to function properly.
This isn't helping my confidence in cleaning the registry. Any constructive thoughts?
On my notebook, Registry Finder shows the four items shown below for "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh".
If your system, has similar items, but the file extensions are missing, the problem may be due to choosing "Hide extensions for known file types" in windows Folder Options.
If so, PT is interpreting the string as a directory. Without the extension, it can not know the string is a file. This would really be a windows shortcoming (recording the result of a visual option instead of the actual full path).
What can you do?
Uncheck the "Hide ..." option to avoid the problem for future instances.
Either use a PT ignore list to avoid the existing Synaptics items, or use regedit to add the correct file extention to those registry items.
