Software manager bug update 1.5.2.338

Forgive me if I am posting this for a second time. The bug with the software manager is still present in 338. I have tried various methods of installing. Including creating a test directory to install to. The result is always the same the software manager shows no entries at all. I have used debug mode to see if anything comes up and no errors show up.

Is there anything else I can do to help figure this out?

I guess there are not many users with that strange problem.

Never had it on my PC with any of the PowerTools versions.

I have the problem too. Reverted to 335 and it works, and honestly I haven't been inspired to look at the release history to see what I'm missing vs. 336, 337, and 338.

Maybe it has to do with what is being run in the background. I will try to post a "running processes" list--maybe tlstevens you can do the same and something might show-up as a commonality...

I have installed 338 on another of my computers and it ran fine. The software manager shows all entries. The other computer is a Dell also.

Is there a list of programs that have compatibility issues with jv powertools, that may be where my problem lies?

subject works fine in 2005 version but doesn't show anything as being installed in the 2006 version.

This is a strange bug experienced by only a few users myself included. The last version in which software manager shows any entries for me is .335.

There's a bug in the Software Manager introduced in RC3, causing certain issues to some users. tlstevens and laserfan reports no entries in their Software Manager. For me, the problem is that there are half of the entries that used to be in RC2. I remember this problem was also present in RC1, but it was only appearing if you had the "Age" system activated. Not happening anymore, but there's a bug in there... unless I've been a victim of my old SO again

It appears that we have ruled out background processes since neither of us has much in common except the windows xp processes that normally run.

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling to new directories but nothing changes. There has to be a common factor somewhere in our systems that is causing this problem.

Has anyone else encountered this lately?

I can only add that I have at least two "non-default" settings in Windows XP:

1. "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select: jv16 PowerTools 2006 (the only entry here)

2. My Paging file is not on the C: drive but on another physical disk instead (E: in my case)

It seems to me in trying various versions of jv16 and installing & uninstalling I got an error somewhere along the way that said to change the DEP as above.

Regarding DEP: I remember that too, & had it set for jv16 on both machines. Just turned it off ... made no difference in Software Manager (or anything else I saw).

Those two settings are set to default on my system. I haven't made any changes to my system so I don't know what is triggering this bug with 336,337 and 338. I can run jv powertools 2005 and all previous versions of 2006. I have even tried disabling my anti virus and firewall programs to see if somehow they were causing the problem but it didn't help.

I have the "missing Software manager list" issue also in 338 but I reverted back to version 337 and it shows a populated list

I haven't yet been able to locate the problem. Would someone who always receives a blank list when using the Software Manager be willing to test a debug version of the product in order to help me to fix the problem?

You can download the test version from:

Please install it to its own directory, there's no need to uninstall any previous versions of the product before, however.

Simply run the Software Manager. It will show you about ten message boxes, please report here what the message boxes say (report them in the same order as you see them). No need to take screenshots.

Thank you very much for doing this, I'm very hopeful this will help me to find the exact location of the problem and fix it.
