Runtime error 216 at 0040439A

I've just downloaded and installed JV16 Power Tools 1.5.2.337 on Windows 2000 SP4, however when run the following error occurs:

jv16pt.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x0040439a" referenced memory at "0x00f4ca38". The memory could not be "read".

OK button; Cancel button

Click OK:

Runtime error 216 at 0040439A

I've downloaded it twice, installed, uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled but the error keeps occurring.

Please give exact steps what you do before the error message shows.

Also, are you running any anti-virus, anti-trojan or such applications? Did you download the file from http://www.macecraft.com?

Hi,

I simply run it from the Windows Start menu and the error appears almost immediately. The PowerTools GUI doesn't appear.

An anti-virus isn't installed on the machine. The following are installed: Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware SE Personal, though these are not running at the time I run PowerTools.

Yes, I downloaded it from Macecraft.

I googled "Runtime error 216" and got 10,800 English hits. The first item was this Microsoft article which says it could be a virus. The article applies to win 98. What OS do you use?

That may not be your problem. There's way too much information out there ... :?

Perhaps someone else in the forum has some idea about what it might be ...

I've done a virus scan (AVG Free) and none were found. I also checked manually for the SubSeven Trojan virus mentioned in that Microsoft article and the machine was clean.

It's Windows 2000 SP4.

As you may know already, PT v1.5.2.338 was released earlier today.

Perhaps the start up changes mentioned corrected your problem also ... one can hope ...

Thanks for pointing out the new version, however no luck with this one either I'm afraid:

Uninstalled PT, installed version 1.5.2.338. Ran it, same error as before.

Rebooted, ran it, same error as before.
