I also had a few of these - please see the thread titled `Registry Cleaner in 1.5.2.337'. For the time being, I've added these `wrong errors' to the exclusion list.

The entry is considered useless since it's a MRU entry. If you disable the MRU scan you won't see this kind of errors listed any longer.

With MRU scan checked, sometimes they don't show, then on a rescan, there they are again. They do show most of the time.

Could you please list what other entries are stored in HKLM\Soft\InterActual Technologies\IACommon\Video\ ? The names of the entries are enough, no need to post the contents of the entries.

How about a picture? The seven entries starting with "iav" are on the RC list.

Actually, it shouldn't be possible to run the Registry Cleaner at all if no scans are selected but I see it's possible if you select the very first line from the scan selection box. Well, this little problem is now fixed, thank you for reporting. The next released version contains the fix.

The RC Start button was active when I called up RC, and it stayed active after I unchecked all the scan boxes ... and then RC behaved when started as mentioned above. Just a trivial thing.

Thank you for the picture. This is indeed a bug, the MRU scan engine mistakes and thinks these items are MRU entries. The problem is now fixed, the next released version will contain the fix.

RC picked out items from "*", bat, and pdf keys under the HKCU\Soft\MSoft\Win\CurVer\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\ key.

Is there a reason items in the other subkeys under the OpenSaveMRU key are not picked out?

I just tried the last version of Power Tools 1.5.2.337, and I noticed an amazing difference between the Registry Cleaner results I was used to before this version and now:

the registry cleaner finds now 560 errors, whereas when I run the registry cleaner in version 1.5.1.331 (PT 2005 which I still have installed), it finds only +/- 50 errors!

Is such a difference normal? I mean: I know jv did improve the registry cleaner, but such a difference makes me suspicious. What do you think?

It is best to scan the RC list and remove only those you know are real errors. You can exclude the others with appropriate ignore words and come back to them later.

Those type Entry names are under the key "HKCU\Soft\MSoft\Win\CurVer\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}\Count" on my machine (per Registry Finder). Can't tell from the information you provided if they are real errors.

These are real errors. You can easily verify this by selecting the line, the filename or directory the entry is referring to shows on the top panel.

Using a Registry Finder scan for "HRZR_" -- I found 157 Entry names starting with "HRZR_" -- the values are all binary, which Registry Cleaner would show as N/A.

So if your RC lines are like that, they won't have a filename or directory value. If that is the case, what is the "Error description" shown on the RC list?

The error description with these entries is always "File or directory X doesn't exist". You can validate that these are in fact invalid items since the error description shows the filename/path the entry is referring to.

I made a (normal) RC-scan so as to remove the strange entries we discussed above (in PT version 1.5.2.337) and clicked on the fix button.

Then I got an error message during the backup prior to removal/fix of the entries:

Failed to backup "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\{2B257128-0B59-4A88-AFDF-BE12E5F5B9A0}}"!

Except that, everything went well. But what about this entry? Is that important?

It's the filename/path the registry entry is pointing to.

I've seen that message a time or two. In every case, the items that did not backup also did not go out of the registry. They showed up again the next time Registry Cleaner ran.

Did yours show up again? Did Fix/Remove that time cause the message again?

Chances are about zero that that type of entry is important.
