Software manager shows no entries

I just updated to the lastest release 1.5.2.336 and now when I open the software manager no entries show up. The progress bar shows it is working but nothing appears. I installed over the previous release. Should I have uninstalled before installing this one? When reg cleaner runs for the first time, when my firewall prompts to allow access, the reg cleaner window disappears and has to be relaunched again.

Uninstalled and then reinstalled and the result is the same. The software manager shows no entries at all.

I tried to create the symptoms using all combinations of the age & comments settings. It worked with every combination.

I installed over the previous release.

Can't think what it might be.

Check SuperSoftwareIgnoreList.dat -- maybe there's something strange there (unlikely).

I don't have SuperSoftwareIgnoreList.dat in my jv power tools directory. I have tried to uninstall again and reinstall but the result is the same. What else might cause this to happen?

I tried to uninstall, delete the directory, redownload the latest version, reinstall. When it installs I don't have to put in my license since it is already showing up. It seems I'm not getting a completely clean reinstall. I can see what programs are installed via the registry manager but all I get is a blank software manager.

If this helps my system is a dell dimension 2400 running windows xp sp2. I have 512 MB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive.

I have not seen other posts for PT 1.5.2.336 Software Manager problems. I can only speculate that you have a registry item that confuses PT.

Perhaps JV16 will have some theories?

I reinstalled .335 and the software manager shows all the entries. I then tried to update again and the software manager shows no entries. Uninstalled and reinstalled .335 everything ok.

We have now received also another similar report, so I guess there is something wrong. I'll try to to find a problem to fix.

To be clear: Does the "Working" panel with the progress bar ever go away?

On my computer (Win98) the Software Manager is listing half of the entries that PowerTools 2005. I think that this problem started back in one of the first Release Candidates, RC3 if I remember well.

The progress bar does finish. I am then just left with a blank software manager window.

I have now made one small change, I don't think it is the reason for the problem but it could be. The next released version will contain the change.

I just purchased jv16 PowerTools 2006 a couple days ago and therefore have 336. I too have this problem; the "Working" dialog appears for a few seconds and then the Software Mgr window, with no entries at all.

Is there a place I can get 335 to try?

OK I just put it on another PC I have (I think I have 5 licenses) and it works on that one, a 450MHz P3 w/256Mb RAM and XP SP2.

The non-working machine is a 3.2GHz P4 Northwood HT w/1Gb RAM and XP SP2 as well.

If you have any suggestions for me to try pls post. I will hunt around the Registry for differences between these two PCs.

EDIT: OK I uninstalled completely and then went thru the Registry deleting any residual references there using 'jv16' as a search term. There were a few (I'd had older demos installed in the past). After re-installing from scratch, I still have the problem. :(

This problem has carried-over to the newest release 337.

I must ask again--does anyone have a storehouse of older versions I might try? I've had to go all-the-way back to freeware 1.3!!!
